The direct answer

PMP fits an experienced project leader—not someone trying to create experience through a bootcamp

PMI currently lists four education-and-experience paths: five years with a secondary-school credential, four years with an associate-level or qualifying vocational credential, three years with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or two years with a degree from a PMI GAC-accredited program. The experience must be non-overlapping project-leadership work from the prior ten years.

Every path also requires 35 hours of Project Professional training, unless an active CAPM certification fulfills that requirement. If you cannot yet document one experience path, compare CAPM eligibility and training or free foundational project-management learning instead of buying PMP prep as a workaround. A short introduction does not supply the full qualifying hours.

Detailed employer approval decisions

Employer approval

Build an approval case without implying PMI acceptance

A manager can decide whether the work need, schedule and budget justify preparation. PMI separately decides whether the application evidence meets its requirements. Keep those decisions visible instead of treating course enrollment as certification approval.

What the manager can decide

  • The project responsibility or business outcome the learning should support.
  • Whether protected study time, scenario practice and application support are useful.
  • Which tuition, staff time and other known costs the employer is willing to fund.

What the learner must document

  • The applicable education-and-experience path and non-overlapping leadership work.
  • Thirty-five qualifying training hours or an active CAPM alternative.
  • The course schedule, 2026 exam version and time needed for independent practice.

What only PMI can decide

  • Whether the submitted application and any audit evidence are accepted.
  • The learner’s eligibility window, exam fees and any retake charges.
  • Whether the final training evidence satisfies the current application rules.

Approval packet: name the work need, documentable eligibility path, qualifying-hours evidence, exact course/version, study and coverage time, known tuition, unknown exam or retake costs, and the person who owns each remaining decision.

Current exam facts and version checks

Current exam

Make sure the course teaches the exam that launched in July 2026

PMI’s current exam has 180 questions and a 240-minute appointment. The Exam Content Outline weights People at 33%, Process at 41% and Business Environment at 26%. PMI says the July 2026 update adds AI, sustainability and stakeholder-engagement scenarios and increases emphasis on outcomes, value and business impact.

This is not just a vocabulary test. Useful preparation should expose how you reason through situational questions across predictive, agile and hybrid work. Ask any course provider to identify the exact 2026 outline, courseware version and practice-question version in writing.

Review PMI’s 2026 exam changes. PMI allows up to three attempts during a one-year eligibility period; verify the current exam fee and retake charge in your own PMI checkout before budgeting.

Choose format by the gap

The fastest class is not automatically the fastest path to readiness

Self-paced

Fits an eligible, disciplined learner who can map existing project experience to the new outline and sustain regular scenario practice without live accountability. Verify access length, question quality, update policy and how qualifying hours are documented.

Live intensive

Fits an eligible learner with broad practical experience who needs a fixed deadline, instructor explanation and concentrated practice. Treat four or five days as exam-prep structure—not as enough time to build years of judgment.

Longer guided preparation

Fits someone whose experience is real but uneven across predictive, agile, hybrid, people or business-environment work. Use the extra calendar time for application review, spaced scenario practice and feedback.

Training-hours rule

Live-course eligibility changes on December 1, 2026

PMI says live training completed on or after December 1, 2026 counts only when delivered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner, a China Registered Education Provider or an eligible accredited higher-education program. PMI separately says eligible self-paced training can come from any organization. Provider authorization is therefore a baseline for a qualifying live class, not proof of instructor quality, schedule fit or value.

Authorization establishes

For live training completed on or after December 1, 2026, the provider category is part of whether the hours can qualify. Record the current directory identity, delivery organization, completion date and completion document.

Authorization does not establish

An ATP label does not prove the instructor, 2026 courseware, schedule, learner support, cancellation terms, value or application acceptance. Verify those separately for the exact offer.

Self-paced follows a different rule

PMI says eligible self-paced training can come from any organization. Confirm that the exact course supplies the required hours and acceptable completion evidence; do not reject it only because it lacks a live-course ATP label.

Verify the ATP pathway and provider evidence. For the exact purchase, record the legal seller, delivery organization, instructor, dates, time zone, live hours, attendance rule, completion document, course version, cancellation terms and complete price.

Historical course comparisons: prices and conditions

Historical course comparisons

Three live courses differ on version proof, pace, support and total price

These are provider-published references checked September 12, 2026, not rankings, quotes or seat confirmations. None of the checked pages clearly includes the PMP exam fee, so the course price is not the total certification budget.

The offer observations are historical and older than Learnerside’s 14-day class-source freshness window. Prices and October calendar examples below are not current offers or upcoming classes; reopen the exact provider source and verify it before purchase.

ONLC: five days, USD 2,995

Course PDCCEP publishes five live remote days, 35 PDUs, workshops, discussions and practice exams. ONLC says PMI-engaged experts developed the courseware, but the checked page does not clearly say that the delivered materials and questions align to the July 2026 exam.

Before purchase, confirm the current PMI ATP identity, exact courseware version, instructor, 35-hour completion evidence, exam-fee exclusion, seat, late-registration charges and cancellation terms.

Read ONLC's current PMP outline and calendar.

New Horizons/PMA: four days from USD 1,995

The page says Project Management Academy, PMI Premier ATP #3348 and part of Educate 360, delivers the course. It lists 35 contact hours, authorized courseware, a simulator, six-month portal access, tutoring and application support. Full-day October sessions display USD 2,495; some evening and weekend schedules display USD 1,995.

That delivery chain matters: confirm the contracting seller, PMA's current directory status, instructor, schedule-specific price, source time zone, guarantee conditions and whether the exam fee is excluded.

Read the current New Horizons/PMA outline and calendar.

Learning Tree: five days, USD 3,350 commercial

Course 276 lists official PMI content, 35 PDUs, a guided study plan, three months of practice questions and recordings, coaching and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition. Learning Tree recommends at least three years of project-management experience.

The page separately displays USD 2,897 government pricing and says Guaranteed-to-Run delivery format may change. Confirm buyer eligibility, ATP identity, instructor, delivery format, completion evidence, exam-fee exclusion, access periods and cancellation terms.

Read Learning Tree's current PMP outline and schedule.

Decision rule: first eliminate any course that cannot document the correct 2026 exam version and qualifying hours. Then compare the schedule you can actually attend, scenario practice, instructor evidence, support, complete price and policies. A badge or guarantee does not answer those questions.

Additional course evidence and source records

PMP training: eligibility first, then course fit

PMI requirements checked September 11, 2026. PMP is not a beginner credential and a prep course cannot replace required project-management experience. Verify your eligibility path before comparing providers or asking an employer to pay.

Separate the experience gate from the 35 training hours

PMI currently lists four experience paths based on education: five years with a high-school credential, four years with an associate or vocational credential, three years with a bachelor’s or higher degree, or two years with a degree from a PMI GAC-accredited program. Qualifying work must involve responsibility for project planning, decisions, delivery and outcomes within the last ten years, without double-counting overlapping projects.

You also need 35 hours of Project Professional training, unless an active CAPM certification fulfills that training requirement. Course completion does not establish the experience requirement or application approval. Check the current eligibility paths directly with PMI.

The live-training rule changes December 1, 2026

PMI says live in-person or online training completed on or after December 1, 2026 qualifies only when delivered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner, a China Registered Education Provider, or an eligible accredited higher-education program. PMI separately says self-paced courses from any organization may satisfy the training-hours requirement. Eligibility is not the same as quality or exam readiness.

Confirm the current exam and the actual learning support

The updated PMP exam launched July 9, 2026. For any course, ask for written confirmation that instruction, practice questions and courseware align to that version. Compare scenario practice, instructor feedback, actual live hours, recordings, access duration, application support and post-class study expectations—not just a 35-hour certificate.

ONLC example: advanced five-day prep, but details still need verification

ONLC’s current outline calls its course advanced project-management training for experienced project managers, lists five days and 35 PDUs, and says its instructors hold PMP and PMI ATP instructor credentials. It also says learners should understand PMI eligibility criteria. The public outline does not establish a current seat, total price, exam-fee inclusion or the current directory identity of the delivering ATP.

Inspect ONLC’s current PMP outline. Before approval, verify the exact date and time zone, 2026 course version, live hours, legal seller and delivery entity, current PMI directory entry, complete price, exam inclusion, cancellation terms and completion documentation. Learnerside has not confirmed this offering as a current match.

If you are not yet eligible

Do not buy PMP prep solely because a provider markets it to project professionals. Compare CAPM or structured foundational learning, and build a record of real project responsibility. Training should solve a readiness, accountability, schedule or employer-documentation need; it should not manufacture an eligibility story.

Use your actual requirement

Build the schedule and approval case before contacting providers

Use the research without contact, or send a short request for help. Schedule, delivery preference and the detailed planner are optional; an exact budget is not required. For an employer brief, record the eligibility path you can document, deadline, practice gaps, protected time, known costs and unresolved course evidence.
