Choose CAPM training by eligibility, outline coverage, schedule, and proof

CAPM can be an appropriate first PMI credential because it does not require project-management work experience. It does require a secondary degree, age 18 or older, and 23 hours of project management education before the exam. The course should teach all four current exam domains and issue usable completion evidence—not merely advertise PMBOK vocabulary.

The direct answer

Eligibility is beginner-friendly; exam readiness still takes applied practice

Choose CAPM when you need a structured foundation and an exam-based PMI credential for work such as project coordination, analysis, or contributing to projects. Do not present it as proof that you have led projects or as a guaranteed path to a project-manager title.

If you already have several years leading projects, check PMP eligibility before paying for CAPM training. If you only need practical foundations, compare the credential route with lower-cost learning and supervised work on a real project.

Try PMI’s free Kickoff course and toolkit first if your goal is practical foundations rather than a credential. PMI’s free-learning directory, checked October 1, 2026, describes 45 minutes. This is not the full 23-hour education requirement, an exam-readiness verdict or CAPM certification.

Course-outline test

Make the provider map its outline to all four official domains

PMI currently weights Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts at 36%, Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies at 17%, Agile Frameworks and Methodologies at 20%, and Business Analysis Frameworks at 27%. Agile plus Business Analysis therefore represents 47% of the published outline.

Ask for a current module-by-module mapping, the hours of instruction and practice, and the version date. A course described only through integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management does not visibly prove coverage of the separate Agile and Business Analysis domains.

Historical offer evidence

Three different products solve three different constraints

Provider prices, packages and policies below were checked September 12, 2026. They are historical observations, not current offers or quotes; verify the source again before purchase. Eligibility was checked separately October 1, 2026.

New Horizons live online | $1,595

The provider publishes three consecutive weekdays or three Saturdays, says the course fulfills 23 hours, and lists labs and practice tests. The exam voucher is excluded by default. Its public agenda does not visibly separate Agile and Business Analysis, so ask for the current four-domain mapping before purchase.

Learning Tree live instructor | $2,785

The outline visibly maps all four domains and lists 23 hours, PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, 150+ practice questions, coaching, and a sandbox. The exam voucher is not listed. A separate $2,474 government price requires buyer eligibility.

Its page also says CAPM holders must retake the exam every three years. That conflicts with PMI's current 15-PDU renewal requirement, so do not rely on the provider page for maintenance policy.

ONLC on-demand | $695

ONLC publishes six months of self-paced access and says both its Introduction to Project Management and exam-prep portions are needed to meet the contact-hour requirement. The public outline does not clearly establish a current four-domain mapping. Access begins at purchase, taxes may apply, and ONLC says on-demand purchases are not refundable.

  • New Horizons weekday: October 5-7, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the source-labeled EST time, $1,595.
  • Learning Tree weekday: September 23-25, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Eastern, virtual or Herndon, $2,785 commercial.

Complete cost and maintenance

Separate tuition, exam, membership, retakes, and renewal

The current PMI page routes accepted candidates to pay and schedule but does not expose one stable public checkout price in the static page. Do not build a proposal from older $225-member or $300-nonmember references alone. Verify the payable amount in the learner's PMI account, including geography, membership, tax, and any retake cost.

PMI currently requires 15 PDUs in each three-year renewal cycle. Include renewal fees and the time or paid learning needed to maintain the credential.

Requirements-first next step

Build the requirement brief before sharing contact information

Use this research without contact. If you want help, send a short request; schedule, delivery preference and the detailed planner are optional. An exact budget or readiness assessment is not required. For an employer brief, record whether you need the credential, the 23 hours, foundational teaching, live feedback, a completion date or a specific inclusion.
