RHCSA Certification: EX200 Exam, Cost and Training
Decision summary
Test EX200 skills before buying a RHEL course
RHCSA is a practical RHEL 10 administration credential. Compare RH124/RH134, RH199 or equivalent RHEL experience as preparation. Course recommendations do not prove that you must buy or attend a course. Check your lab gaps, exact course and exam codes, and total cost before paying.
Read the RHCSA decision guideCertification details change. Always confirm final pricing, availability, and credential terms on the official provider page linked in the sources below before you pay for anything.
Is RHCSA the right Linux certification for you?
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) validates hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). You earn it by passing EX200, a practical exam currently based on RHEL 10. It fits a person who must administer RHEL systems, or whose employer specifically values a Red Hat credential. If you need broad, distribution-neutral Linux knowledge instead, compare the actual job tasks and employer requirement before committing to this vendor-specific exam.
Choose preparation by what you can already do, not by a course label. Someone who can repeatedly build, secure and recover a RHEL system may start with the official objectives and a practice environment. Someone new to Linux administration should build fundamentals first. Red Hat's listed EX200 prerequisites are RH124 followed by RH134, RH199 rapid track, or comparable RHEL system-administrator experience. Buying its courses is not the only listed route. This does not mean that a self-rating proves exam readiness; review the current booking terms and your employer's own requirements.
What EX200 actually tests
The current EX200 objectives cover command-line tools and simple scripting; software and running services; storage and file systems; networking; users and access; and firewall and SELinux controls. Red Hat does not publish weights for these areas, so a list of topics is not a percentage-based study plan. Read the complete official task list before booking; a provider outline should map to your EX200 version, not merely say "Linux administration."
EX200 is a performance exam. Red Hat says there is no internet access or personal documentation in the exam, and configurations must survive a reboot. A useful self-check is to administer a disposable RHEL 10 lab without step-by-step prompts: create users and privileges, configure persistent storage and a network service, correct an SELinux or firewall block, then reboot and verify the final state. This is a Learnerside practice suggestion, not a reproduced exam task or a pass prediction. If you cannot diagnose failures unaided, more supervised lab time may be worth paying for; a video-only overview is unlikely to close that gap.
Free start versus paid training
| Starting point | Sensible next step | What to verify before paying |
|---|---|---|
| New to Linux | Try Red Hat's no-cost RH024 technical overview and free skills assessment. If the work is relevant, compare RH124 then RH134. | RH024 is an introduction, not EX200 lab preparation. Confirm hands-on lab hours, support, delivery pace, RHEL version and whether the exam is included. |
| Administer Linux, but not RHEL | Compare your gaps with the EX200 objectives. RH199 rapid track compresses RH124/RH134 material for experienced administrators. | Do not mistake RH199 (course) for RH200 (course with exam). Check the exact package, lab access and attempt terms. |
| Already administer RHEL | Test your skills against the official objectives in a safe lab. If gaps are narrow, self-preparation and an exam-only purchase may be enough. | Confirm exam format, booking region, RHEL version, accessibility arrangements and what your employer actually requires. |
The Red Hat program guide listed a US $500 standard exam list price when checked September 29, 2026. Red Hat says the regional shopping cart has the accurate price. This is one exam registration, not a quote for RH124, RH134, RH199, RH200, a subscription, travel, taxes or a team. The generic guide describes one free second attempt on the same exam for an eligible paid first attempt. The operative Individual Exam policy makes this conditional on the selected product and personal eligibility: the same-exam retake must fit the original one-year purchase window. This is not a guaranteed personal free attempt. Individual Exam purchases are final and non-refundable; no extension is provided. Confirm the selected contract and scheduler terms before paying. We have not verified a bookable seat or an all-in class price.
Compare the named official course outlines
Choose by background and inclusions: RH124 then RH134 is the structured option for a newcomer; RH199 is accelerated course-only preparation for an experienced administrator; RH200 packages the accelerated course with EX200. Exam inclusion does not mean a pass, and selected package terms remain unknown. Do not automatically add a separate exam fee to RH200.
The official RHEL skills path, displayed August 24, 2026 and checked October 6, also lists RH304 in its first RHCSA path. The current RHCSA credential preparation list does not include RH304. Treat that skills-path recommendation as distinct from an exam eligibility requirement; we have not verified mandatory RH304 attendance.

Selected package price, date, seat, delivery, duration, practice permissions/access expiry, feedback, accessibility and personal retake terms unknown. Do not automatically add a separate exam fee to a package including EX200; no booking, course, lab or assessment operated.
Selected course price and duration: Unknown; duration unknown. Confirm the actual offer and permitted practice environment.
Compare administration, diagnostics and automation learning.
The English course outlines were read October 6, 2026. Course topics are not identical to EX200 objectives: RH124 includes RHEL Lightspeed, and RH134 includes Podman and image-based RHEL. Do not treat these as additional EX200 objective families. RH199's summary mentions Stratis and Cockpit while its detailed outline is narrower; confirm the selected course coverage.
Try a changed-condition Linux work sample
A fictional community arts studio has two invented RHEL hosts. Plan a least-privilege service account, persistent data mount, network service, firewall rule and SELinux configuration. Use synthetic files and an authorized disposable environment; a paper plan needs no account.
Changed condition: the service works before reboot, but the data mount is absent afterward. A second change makes the service unreachable even though its process is running. Explain which mount configuration, service state, listening port, firewall and SELinux evidence you would inspect, then propose a reversible correction and verify the state after another reboot.
Review the artifact: require a configuration diff, access boundary, log observations, before/after checks and rollback steps. Keep secret values out of the artifact. This is an original fictional exercise, not an exam question, personal readiness score or demonstrated business result. A written plan is separate from personally performed administration.
Roles, renewal and employer decision
RHCSA is most relevant to RHEL system administration, platform operations and infrastructure roles. It is a skills signal, not a job offer or a credential-specific salary. Occupation wages mix people with many backgrounds and cannot establish an RHCSA pay premium. If an employer asks for a defense-workforce qualification, have the requirement owner confirm the current position and accepted credential; an old DoD 8570 mention on an issuer page is not proof of a current DoD 8140 mapping.
Red Hat's certification program guide says certifications are current for three years. The scoped generic guide requires renewal before expiry and says expired credentials must be earned again. Confirm the applicable renewal path, fee and exact date in your Red Hat account before relying on RHCSA status in a proposal. Training attendance alone does not award the credential.
For approval, write down the RHEL tasks the learner will perform, the missing EX200 skills, the selected exam and course codes, lab time, format, schedule, voucher/retake terms and total per-learner cost. Draft an employer brief or send a short request. A request allows Learnerside to reply; it does not authorize sharing your details with Red Hat or any provider. Named-recipient consent is separate.

The October 6 review used the exact EX200, RHCSA, RH124, RH134 and RH199 English pages linked above. Generic price and renewal guidance reused the original October 6 program-guide observation; selected invoices, course delivery, duration and practice access were not verified. Earlier September 29 evidence remains historical.
