Choose container learning for the work behind EX188

Start with building, running and troubleshooting containers. Compare DO188 with the course-plus-exam DO189 offer after checking their different platform versions and the issuer’s conflicting credential names. A course description and a practical exam do not establish your readiness or a bookable place.

Best fit
People who need to build, run and troubleshoot containerized applications using Podman.
Consider instead
If your gap is operating a Kubernetes or OpenShift cluster, compare the platform-administration work instead. Build Linux terminal and application foundations first where needed.
Before paying
Credential names and course revisions differ; your designated exam, exact offer, eligibility, practice access and final invoice need confirmation.
No-contact next step
Describe a container task and try the original restart-and-recovery work case before choosing a course.

Confirm what EX188 means for your appointment

The EX188 exam page calls the credential Red Hat Certified Developer in Cloud-native Applications. The credential detail page still says Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers. Both refer to EX188. These names conflict; an effective rename date, successor or equivalence for your existing badge has not been verified. This guide retains the existing URL so you can compare the evidence.

The exam overview lists RHEL 10, Podman 5 and OpenShift 4.22; its delivery description names Podman 5 and says multiple versions are in use. Your designated LMS exam version remains unknown. Confirm it against the specific appointment and training revision before paying.

EX188 is a 150-minute hands-on practical exam involving tasks on a live system, with relevant product documentation supplied and no outside assistance. Task count, selected language and numeric passing threshold were not verified. Configurations and services must remain functional across the platform’s normal lifecycle. Public objectives cover:

  • Implement images using Podman and Containerfile
  • Manage images
  • Run containers locally using Podman
  • Run multi-container applications with Podman
  • Troubleshoot containerized applications

No weights are published for these five families in the scoped page. This is a content summary, not a personal mastery or readiness percentage. The exam detail describes total scores and usual reporting within three US business days; the generic program guide describes an area breakdown within five business days. Result timing and granularity conflict; do not rely on either as a promise for your appointment.

Current preparation recommends Podman 5 experience in Linux and encourages DO188. It does not establish a fixed employment tenure, a required course purchase or a verified RHCSA gate. Separately, the operative training policy requires candidates to be 18 to purchase and consume training and exams. Your identity, agreement, country, accommodations and remote-device compatibility are separate checks; this review does not verify personal eligibility. Compare OpenShift platform administration when cluster operations are the actual requirement.

Red Hat OpenShift Development I: Introduction to Containers with Podman

Choose when: You need a foundation in building, managing and troubleshooting containers.

Useful evidence: Current DO188 describes hands-on container development on RHEL10, Podman5 and OpenShift4.22. A complete detailed selected outline was not recovered. Selected tuition, duration, delivery and permitted practice access are unknown.

Confirm first: Web-application architecture experience and Linux-terminal/OS-command/shell familiarity are recommended; this is course guidance, not verified admission. Confirm lab environment, feedback, access expiry, accessibility, support and exact exam inclusions.

Red Hat OpenShift Development I: Introduction to Containers with Podman and exam

Choose when: You want a course-plus-exam offer and can verify the exact included exam version.

Useful evidence: DO189 lists container basics, Podman, images, custom images, persistence, debugging, Compose and orchestration. Its page lists RHEL9, Podman5 and OpenShift4.18, with EX188 included as a provider claim. Selected tuition, duration, delivery and permitted practice access are unknown.

Confirm first: The page recommends web-application and Linux-terminal/shell background. Confirm the selected course and included exam version; the older outline is not proof of current DO188 coverage. Confirm lab environment, feedback, access expiry, accessibility, support and exact exam inclusions.

DO188 lists RHEL 10, Podman 5 and OpenShift 4.22; DO189 lists RHEL 9, Podman 5 and OpenShift 4.18. DO189’s included EX188 is a provider claim, not a personally verified entitlement or seat. Its eight-topic public outline was read; a complete detailed selected DO188 outline was not recovered. Do not transfer an older outline to a different course revision or assume an included exam uses the latest overview.

These are Red Hat’s own offers. Neither paid course nor its labs was operated for this review. Ask the selected seller to identify the exact revision, learner-performed tasks, restart/persistence exercises, feedback on your work, lab-hour and access limits, delivery dates, support and exam/retake terms. Subscription marketing and a course completion do not prove competence or a pass. A regional package’s eligibility, hours and price do not establish the global offer.

Separate the general exam base from your payable offer

The generic certification program guide publishes a USD500 standard exam list price, with a region and shopping-cart caveat. This is not a selected EX188 invoice. Neither DO188 nor DO189 tuition, delivery duration or personal bundle quote was verified. Confirm currency, tax, discounts, included exam, required environment and access costs separately. Unknown is not zero.

The Individual Exam policy makes purchases final and non-refundable, with one year from purchase to schedule and take the exam and no extension. The conditional same-exam retake must also fit the original one-year window; verify actual eligibility in the scheduler and applicable contract. Scheduling requires at least 24 hours’ notice, and changes inside the 24-hour rescheduling limit forfeit the authorization. This is not a guaranteed personal free retake or refund. Country-of-residence and remote compatibility rules matter.

The policy also announces a December 11, 2026 cutoff in the People’s Republic of China for affected online training and Individual Exam delivery. That regional notice is not a global EX188 retirement. Confirm whether the selected offering and place of use are affected.

The generic guide describes credentials as current for three years from earning, with renewal before expiry; expired credentials must be earned again. Your exact badge, applicable renewal route and cost remain unverified. Its RHCA credit route is not an EX188 credit requirement, and general higher-level renewal wording is not proof that a chosen activity renews your badge.

Container development, Linux runtime work, troubleshooting, networking and security fundamentals are associated with this scope. Relevant software-developer or cloud-engineer duties must actually involve this work. A credential does not establish an occupation, production authority, personal proficiency or earnings. Geographic occupational wages are different from credential salaries; no salary estimate is inferred here. Compare other Red Hat work decisions.

Try an original container restart-and-recovery case

A fictional community science exhibit uses an invented web application and a database to store fabricated sensor readings. Write a container runbook: choose an image and tag, describe the Containerfile, non-root runtime user, port mapping, configuration and a persistent data volume. Explain how to start both services and check logs, health and database state after a host restart. No real visitor or sensor data is needed.

Changed condition: After a restart the web service starts before the database, one volume has incompatible permissions, and a newly pulled image uses a different default port. Identify the evidence needed to separate startup order, permissions and configuration problems, then propose the smallest reversible fix and a rollback.

Review rubric: Check image provenance/tag, runtime user and host permissions, port/configuration boundaries, service dependencies, persistence and logs before changing anything. Describe a restart check and restoration path, keep secrets out of images and logs, and distinguish a paper plan from an executed recovery. This original fictional work case is not an exam question, a readiness score or measured business benefit.

Use fabricated data and explicit assumptions. The paper exercise needs no account or private information; executing it requires a permitted isolated environment. This original fictional case is not an exam question, performed customer work, a readiness test or a measured business outcome.

Prepare a private employer training brief

Record the container task and desired runbook, existing Linux and application background, whether EX188 is required, exact exam/course revision and name, practice and feedback needs, environment permission, delivery constraints and separate payable items. Research and a private brief require no contact details.
