SecurityX CAS-005 training decision
SecurityX is the current name for CASP+. It is aimed at experienced practitioners making advanced architecture, engineering, governance and operations decisions. Start with the written requirement and the work you need to perform, then compare what each course actually teaches, schedules and includes.

Current credential identity
CompTIA calls the current credential SecurityX V5 and the exam CAS-005. The previous CASP+ V4 exam retired in June 2025. The current exam has up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions, a 165-minute limit and pass-or-fail reporting rather than a scaled passing score.
Its four domains are Governance, Risk and Compliance 20%, Security Architecture 27%, Security Engineering 31%, and Security Operations 22%. Require the provider to identify CAS-005, the delivered courseware revision and how learner-performed work maps to those domains.
Readiness before course intensity
CompTIA recommends at least ten years of general hands-on IT experience, including five years of hands-on security, plus Network+, Security+, CySA+, Cloud+, PenTest+ or equivalent knowledge. This is guidance rather than an exam-registration gate, but it is the useful standard for deciding whether a five-day course can organize existing judgment or will move too quickly.
If architecture tradeoffs, secure engineering, incident decisions, risk communication and enterprise operations are still mostly unfamiliar, build the missing role experience or choose a slower applied path before buying compressed exam preparation.
Credential choice
Your work centers defensive analysis, vulnerability management, incident response and security operations, and the written requirement names CS0-004 or analyst-level capability.
Your requirement names SecurityX or CASP+, or you need an advanced practitioner checkpoint across architecture, engineering, governance and operations without CISSP’s formal experience-and-endorsement path.
Your role or employer values broad coverage across eight security domains and you can document ISC2’s experience requirement and complete endorsement. Passing before eligibility leads to Associate of ISC2 status.
DoD 8140 / DCWF
Learnerside’s extraction of the current official DoD 8140 qualification matrix finds SecurityX/CASP+ as a foundational qualification option in 17 work-role and proficiency-level rows. It is one option, not a universal requirement or complete qualification. Resident qualification, continuing professional development and component or contract rules still matter.
Inspect the current official DoD matrix. Do not rely on an unsourced role count or an old DoD 8570 shorthand when an employer or contract can name the current requirement.
CompTIA and provider pages checked September 13, 2026. These are dated research observations, not confirmed seats, quotes or a provider ranking.
SecurityX is the current name for CASP+ and targets experienced practitioners making architecture, engineering, governance and operations decisions. Compare the written requirement, current CAS-005 alignment, applied labs, pace, voucher conditions, seller, delivery organization and policies.
Exam scope: CompTIA identifies CAS-005 as the current SecurityX V5 exam. It uses up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 165 minutes and reports pass or fail rather than a scaled passing score. The domains are Governance, Risk and Compliance 20%, Security Architecture 27%, Security Engineering 31%, and Security Operations 22%.
Training scope: SecurityX replaced the CASP+ name; the previous CASP+ V4 exam retired in June 2025. Current training should identify CAS-005 and develop decisions across all four domains. A performance-based exam component does not establish that a course includes enough learner-performed architecture, engineering, response or governance work.
How to use it: CompTIA recommends at least ten years of general hands-on IT experience, including five years of hands-on security, plus Network+, Security+, CySA+, Cloud+, PenTest+ or equivalent knowledge. This is readiness guidance rather than an exam-registration gate. A compressed five-day course is best used to organize and test established experience, not create an advanced-practitioner foundation.

Evidence boundary: This comparison paraphrases public outlines; it does not republish a provider syllabus, verify a seat, or prove that every listed topic receives equal live instruction. A provider-issued proposal should identify the exact course version, schedule, delivery organization, inclusions and terms.
Use the written requirement and the work you need to perform. CySA+ centers defensive analysis and operations. SecurityX moves into advanced architecture, engineering, governance and operations. CISSP spans eight security domains and adds a formal experience and endorsement path. This is not a simple technical-versus-management split: compare the exact role, evidence gap and credential rules.
If an employer, contract or DoD 8140/DCWF work role names a credential, verify the exact current requirement and proficiency level. Learnerside’s current official-matrix extraction finds SecurityX/CASP+ as one foundational qualification option in 17 rows; it is not the only option and does not complete the full qualification program.
CompTIA’s current official page lists a USD 544 SecurityX voucher and a USD 709 voucher-plus-retake package. ONLC describes its included voucher as worth more than USD 404. New Horizons claims mappings to 19 DoD work roles, while Learnerside’s current official-matrix extraction finds 17 SecurityX/CASP+ rows. Keep both conflicts visible and require the current voucher SKU, delivered CAS-005 courseware and exact work-role requirement in writing.
ONLC publishes October 5–9, November 9–13 and December 7–11, 2026 at USD 2,495. New Horizons publishes January 11–15, 2027 at USD 3,295. These are seller references, not verified seats. Confirm the legal seller, delivery organization, instructor, authorization, labs, voucher, source time zone, cancellation terms and total before approval.
