CompTIA DataSys+
Decision summary
Choose the database exam version before buying training
The October 1 issuer check lists DS0-001 available and DS0-002 expected on or around October 13. An announcement is not a bookable exam. Compare database work, version-specific courseware, historical prices and route-dependent renewal before paying.
Read the CompTIA DataSys+ decision guideCertification details change. Always confirm final pricing, availability, and credential terms on the official provider page linked in the sources below before you pay for anything.
Who should choose DataSys+?
Choose DataSys+ for database administration: deployment, maintenance, access control and recovery. It is not the same decision as Data+, which emphasizes analysis and reporting. Before buying a course, identify the database engine and work you need to support. A vendor-neutral credential does not replace platform-specific practice or your employer's permission to make a production change.
The official V1 page, checked October 1, 2026, states no prerequisites and recommends two to three years in database administration. Registration eligibility is not practical readiness or a guarantee of course-entry eligibility. If SQL, permissions and restoration are new to you, start with a small local database rather than a timed exam package.
Choose the exam version before buying training
On the October 1 check, CompTIA's DataSys+ directory lists V1 / DS0-001 as available. The V2 announcement expects DS0-002 on or around October 13, 2026. That announcement is not proof V2 is launched or bookable. No exact V1 last-test date was verified; its estimated 2026 retirement is not an appointment deadline.
For a requirement due soon, confirm the exam code, language, appointment and accepted credential with the requirement owner before paying. For a later target, compare the V2 outline with your work and wait for actual registration evidence. An elapsed announcement does not automatically update our checked date, change DS0-001 practice into DS0-002 coverage or establish a successor's availability. Recheck the issuer after October 13.
The checked V1 page lists up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 90 minutes, English and Japanese, and a 700 passing score on a 100-900 scale. The scaled score is not a percentage-correct target. V1 launched July 18, 2023. The V2 page announces the same maximum count, duration and score scale, with English; those are preview details, not a verified appointment or a promise of Japanese V2 delivery. Confirm test-center or online delivery for your actual booking; neither was verified here.
Current V1 objectives and practical work
The checked V1 page summarizes five areas. This table pairs its weights with original Learnerside exercises; it does not reproduce proprietary objective prose or equate exam percentages with classroom hours.
| V1 area | Weight | A safe practical deliverable |
|---|---|---|
| Database fundamentals | 24% | Model two related tables and explain a SQL query and transaction. |
| Database deployment | 16% | Document a disposable instance, validation steps and rollback. |
| Database management and maintenance | 25% | Compare query plans and record capacity and maintenance observations. |
| Data and database security | 23% | Define separate reader and administrator permissions, then test access. |
| Business continuity | 12% | Restore a copy and prove that its data can be used. |
V2's announced six-area summary changes the weights to 19%, 17%, 18%, 19%, 14% and 13%, respectively, adding Data Integration as the sixth area. Its linked V2 objectives are a preview source to compare with a proposed DS0-002 course. Do not transfer the five-area V1 concept map below into a claim of complete V2 coverage, especially integration or emerging AI topics.
Free practice versus paid training
Use SQLite locally with public or synthetic data to practice tables, joins, transactions and restoring a copy. Keep the schema, commands, expected results and corrections. SQLite is useful for fundamentals; it does not establish multi-user server administration, hosted database operations, access-role management or high availability. For those gaps, use an isolated PostgreSQL or other engine-specific lab you control, not an employer system. Never upload private data or use production credentials. Avoid cloud services that can incur charges without an approved budget.
The V1 issuer page distinguishes paid CertMaster Learn+Labs, Learn, Practice and Labs. Learn+Labs combines instruction with practical environments; Learn includes simulated activities; Practice is assessment-oriented; Labs provides guided environment tasks. These descriptions are not free-access promises. Exact SKU prices, licenses, access duration, accessibility and platform entitlements are unverified. Published product-hour estimates are not your required preparation time. V1 products are not automatically V2 courseware.
For instructor-led training, ask for a dated course outline tied to DS0-001 or DS0-002, the database engine, learner-operated exercises, instructor feedback and recovery work. Confirm format, meeting time zone, recordings, voucher, retake and cancellation terms. A vendor training-partner designation does not establish identical packages or a current seat; verify the exact delivery entity and scope. No current provider tuition, schedule, available seat or partner authorization is verified by this guide. Buy structure or feedback for a demonstrated gap, not a credential-salary promise.
Exam cost and renewal
The retained U.S. exam-voucher observation is USD 399, dated June 8, 2026, for DS0-001. This review does not refresh it or apply it to DS0-002. Confirm the version-specific regional checkout in the CompTIA store. Instruction, tools, tax and retakes are separate; unknown costs are not zero and no universal ownership total is shown.
The CE overview, checked October 1, lists DataSys+ ce as expiring three years after earning it. The renewal-fee page lists USD 150 over the three-year period only when renewing by uploading CEUs. It is not an unavoidable annual bill. Current-exam and qualifying higher-certification routes have separate costs and conditions; not every higher credential fully renews a lower one. A generic CertMaster CE reference does not verify a DataSys+-specific product. Confirm your holder-account requirements and renewal route before budgeting.
Three original database practice questions
1. A restored backup opens, but the application fails. What is missing from the test? Check schema, control totals, permissions and application connectivity in the isolated copy. A successful backup job or file restore is not proof of usable recovery.
2. A new index improves a report but slows nightly imports. What should you measure? Compare read and write workloads, execution plans, storage and maintenance overhead before choosing or removing an index. Do not tune a production workload from a toy benchmark alone.
3. A report account can change data. What should the change plan include? Test a restricted role against permitted and forbidden actions, record the owner and rollback, and use synthetic records. Logging writes does not replace restricting unnecessary privileges.
These are not actual CompTIA exam questions. The optional ten-concept check below remains a V1 learning aid, not a complete objective assessment, pass prediction or proof of production readiness.
Roles, skills and salary context
Database administration and database-support work are editorial associations. Useful evidence includes SQL, data modeling, capacity analysis, permissions, documented changes and tested restoration. O*NET's database administrator profile, checked October 1, provides broader occupation tasks; employers may need experience with their specific engine. DataSys+ does not automatically qualify you for database architecture, analytics or DevOps work. An issuer workforce-role reference is not confirmation that a particular DoD 8140 position's requirements are satisfied; ask its requirement owner.
BLS, checked October 1, reports U.S. May 2025 median annual pay of USD 104,620 for database administrators and USD 139,500 for database architects. These are separate occupations, not a DataSys+-holder salary, entry-level offer or causal pay premium. Broader education, experience, location and duties matter; compare actual local jobs rather than using the higher architect figure to justify a course.
Choose your next action
Build one small database and recovery record before buying training, then identify the support you lack. Compare Data+ for analysis work or the Azure database administrator guide for an Azure-specific requirement. Prepare an employer brief with the version, practical deliverable and unknown costs, or ask about timing and format. Research and planning work without contact. Provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient.
Learnerside is independent of CompTIA. The dated version observation is separate from historical price evidence; no exam success, employment outcome or live training offer is claimed.
