CompTIA Data+

Decision summary

Prove an analytics workflow before buying training

Data+ V2 covers preparing, analyzing, reporting and governing data. Recommended experience is not a registration prerequisite. Use a public or synthetic dataset to find the gap a class could close; exam, tuition and route-dependent renewal costs are separate.

Certification details change. Always confirm final pricing, availability, and credential terms on the official provider page linked in the sources below before you pay for anything.

Who should choose Data+?

Choose Data+ when your work involves turning imperfect data into an explainable report or decision. It covers acquiring and preparing data, basic analysis, reporting and governance. It is not a shortcut to data-science, machine-learning or database-administration proficiency. Start with spreadsheet, SQL and statistical foundations if you cannot yet explain how a join or an outlier changes a result.

CompTIA's Data+ credential page, checked September 30, 2026, recommends 18-24 months in data analysis or similar work, including databases, analytical tools, statistics and visualization. No formal exam-registration prerequisite is stated on that page. This is a scoped observation, not proof that every registration policy or course-entry condition is satisfied. Recommended experience and permission to register are different from readiness.

Data+ supports analyst work; DataSys+ focuses on operating databases. CompTIA currently lists DataSys+ V1 as available and expects V2 around October 13, 2026. That is an announcement, not proof that V2 is bookable. Choose by the tasks you need, not an assumed badge ladder.

Exam version, format and objectives

The checked credential page lists V2 / DA0-002, launched October 14, 2025, with up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions in 90 minutes. It lists English and Japanese and a 675 passing score on a 100-900 scale. That score is not a percentage of correct answers. The page's estimated 2028 retirement is not an announced final test date. Confirm the version and appointment before paying.

The official DA0-002 objectives, version 1.1, checked September 30, give these weights. The exercises are Learnerside guidance, not copied objectives or actual exam questions.

AreaWeightA practical deliverable
Data concepts and environments20%Describe a dataset's types, structure, sources and tools.
Data acquisition and preparation22%Clean and join data, documenting missing values and duplication.
Data analysis24%Explain a statistical choice, its assumptions and limitations.
Visualization and reporting20%Validate a dashboard and adapt it to its audience.
Data governance14%Record lineage, access, quality and privacy decisions.

The outline includes recognition of AI concepts, not evidence of AI engineering competence. Percentages are exam weights, not provider teaching hours or a promise that a ten-question concept check covers the full exam.

Free practice versus paid instruction

Read the official outline first. Use a local spreadsheet and SQLite on public or synthetic data to prepare a small analysis. Retain the data dictionary, cleaning log, query, chart and plain-language conclusion. Never upload employer, customer, personal or regulated data to a hosted practice tool. The optional original concept check below helps find a learning gap; it does not predict passing or establish job readiness.

The credential page describes different paid CertMaster Perform, Learn, Practice and Labs products. Perform combines instruction and practical activities; Learn focuses on foundations; Practice supplies assessment exercises; Labs supplies guided practical tasks. They are not interchangeable subscriptions, and public product descriptions do not establish free access. Exact SKU price, access duration and voucher entitlement are unverified here. A vendor's estimated product duration is not your required preparation time.

For live or employer-funded training, request a DA0-002 outline showing data preparation, analysis, report validation and governance exercises that learners actually perform. Buy feedback, structure, accessibility or schedule fit where those solve a real constraint. Confirm modality, time zone, lab tools, recordings, voucher, retake and cancellation terms with the exact seller. No current provider tuition, available seat or authorization is verified for this guide; a generic partner badge does not establish the package's contents.

Exam and renewal costs

The retained exam-fee observation is USD 264 in the U.S., dated June 8, 2026. It has not been refreshed by this review: the current credential page does not supply a standalone voucher price. Confirm regional checkout in the CompTIA store. Exam, instruction, tools, tax and retakes are separate; unknown costs are not zero. We do not publish a universal ownership total.

CompTIA's CE overview, checked September 30, says Data+ expires three years after earning it. Its renewal-fee page lists USD 75 over the three-year period when renewing by uploading CEUs. The fee is not an unavoidable annual bill: current-exam and qualifying higher-certification routes have different conditions and costs. Confirm your renewal route before budgeting. A generic CertMaster CE mention is not proof that a Data+-specific product is available.

Three original questions to discuss or practice

1. A join doubles revenue. What should you investigate? Check table grain, keys and cardinality before changing totals. Profile missing and duplicate records; verify the output against a known control total.

2. Renewals increased after a campaign. Did the campaign cause it? Check sample selection, time windows, seasonality and other changes. Separate a descriptive finding from causal evidence.

3. A dashboard exposes individual customer details. What changes? Use synthetic practice data, minimize fields, restrict access and explain the chart's units and audience. A useful report does not require unnecessary personal detail.

These are independent learning exercises, not actual CompTIA exam questions. Keep corrections and an explanation rather than treating a practice score as a pass forecast.

Roles, skills and salary context

Data analysis, reporting and business-intelligence support are editorial work associations, not verified hiring requirements. Useful skills include SQL, data cleaning, statistics, visualization and clear communication. A work sample should explain what you did, what remains uncertain and why the result is defensible.

There is no verified Data+-holder salary or causal pay premium here. For broader context, BLS data scientist figures, checked September 30, report U.S. May 2025 median annual pay of USD 120,230. That occupation includes more advanced modeling and often degree requirements; it is not a Data+ salary, an entry-level analyst offer or a job this exam alone qualifies you for. Compare actual local duties, experience and pay ranges before using any national figure in a purchase decision.

Choose the next action

Build one small analysis before buying a class, then identify the feedback or support you lack. Compare Power BI analyst training when your requirement is specifically Power BI rather than vendor-neutral analytics. Prepare an employer brief around a practical deliverable, or ask about timing and format. Research and planning do not require contact. Provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient.

Learnerside is independent of CompTIA. Claim-level source dates above remain separate from the historical exam-price observation; no employment outcome, exam success or live provider offer is claimed.
