CCST IT Support: practise the support work before choosing an exam
Choose this scope when you need a structured introduction to handling user problems, keeping tickets clear and troubleshooting safely. Compare the actual tasks with Tech+ foundations and A+ support preparation before buying another badge.
Best fit
People exploring help desk or end-user support who need practice with support processes and basic technical problems.
Consider instead
For broad basic IT concepts, compare Tech+. For a different support exam scope, compare A+. A credential is not an employment or readiness guarantee.

What 100-140 covers and what is still unknown
Cisco’s exact 100-140 exam listing states 50 minutes and US 125 per attempt. It lists English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, Japanese and Portuguese. Personal booking, tax and your final invoice remain separate.
Cisco states no formal prerequisites and recommends understanding the exam topics. That does not establish your personal age, identity, agreement, accommodation or booking conditions. Support-task practice is different from a readiness score or an offer of employment.

These are the overview’s task families, not verified weighted blueprint domains. The linked topics page returned an error shell during review; no weights, fixed question count, question format or passing threshold are inferred. The FAQ says question count varies.
Compare scope reading, a named path and a study book
Public exam and support-task overview
Choose when: You want to compare the tasks with what you already do.
Useful evidence: Cisco names support process, troubleshooting, user assistance, components and security awareness.
Confirm first: Scope reading is not a complete free course, scored assessment, lab environment or voucher.
Cisco Networking Academy IT Support Specialist career path
Choose when: You want the issuer’s linked structured learning path.
Useful evidence: The current exam and training pages link this exact path; its retrieved public page required JavaScript.
Confirm first: Modules, tuition, duration, account requirements, labs and personal access are unknown here. The FAQ still says IT Support training is forthcoming; use the current named link and verify the actual offering before choosing.
Cisco Press CCST IT Support 100-140 Official Cert Guide, first edition
Choose when: You prefer a detailed self-study book and can arrange practical exercises separately.
Useful evidence: First edition, published January 17 2025, ISBN 9780135403921. The public outline covers support process, hardware, connectivity, OS issues, security and job tools.
Confirm first: The print book is listed at USD 39.99; premium ebook USD 47.99 and book-plus-ebook bundle USD 60.99 are separate choices. Confirm shipping, tax, purchased edition and practice-test entitlement; a book is not live instruction, an operated lab or an exam voucher.
Publisher practice-test claims do not establish your access or a pass probability. No proprietary exam questions or paid product contents were used.
Check your award date and separate the costs
The 125USD exam listing is separate from books, course access, tax and retakes. A total learning or ownership budget depends on what you actually purchase; unknown cost is not zero.
Cisco’s credential-family maintenance policy distinguishes awards before July 15 2025, which remain lifetime, from awards on or after that date, which have five-year validity. The latter renew through a qualifying CCST, associate, professional or expert certification exam; this CCST route does not use Continuing Education.
Conflicting text: the FAQ’s dated recertification section matches that rule, but other FAQ answers still say lifetime and no renewal. Confirm your actual award record and qualifying renewal exam. This guide uses the explicit dated policy for new awards; it does not treat old generic three-year/CE guidance as the CCST rule. The future renewal invoice is unknown.
Skills, roles and occupational pay context
Queue triage, clear documentation, user communication and safe troubleshooting are useful support skills. Cisco associates the credential with end-user support and help desk work. That is an issuer role association, not evidence that holding the badge qualifies you for every support job.
BLS Computer User Support Specialists, SOC 15-1232: USD 61,860 median annual pay, United States, May 2025. Broad occupation median, not CCST holder earnings, an entry-level offer or a credential salary premium. Location, employer, experience and responsibilities vary.
Try an original fictional support-ticket exercise
A fictional employee cannot print after changing networks. A second employee reports suspicious sign-in prompts, and a third needs a new application urgently. Triage the queue, record impact and urgency, and write a short user-friendly response for each ticket.
For the printer, separate observations about power, connectivity and settings before proposing a change. State who may authorize it, how to preserve the prior configuration and when you would escalate. For the sign-in problem, explain safe escalation without requesting passwords or testing a real account.
Review rubric: sensible priorities, reproducible observations, clear documentation, appropriate authorization, rollback and communication. This fictional private exercise is not an exam question, hiring test or readiness score. Use invented names and data; do not submit workplace information.
