Use this route when an employer names the credential or you need structured OCI service-design learning. Start with OCI Foundations if tenancy, compartments or basic cloud dependencies are unfamiliar. That is a preparation option, not a verified compulsory credential purchase.

If you already operate OCI, identify the task you cannot yet explain or validate: private connectivity, scoped workload access, capacity or recovery. The Japanese exam catalog, checked October2, lists 1Z0-1072-26-JPN: 90 minutes, 50 questions and 68%, with free registration. These are Japan-variant observations—not verified English booking terms. For difficulty, compare the task with your own background rather than a universal score: can you explain a packet path, distinguish access from authentication and name a recovery test? Reading a reference or selecting an answer is not proof that you performed the task.

Oracle advertises the Architect Associate course and certification as free. That initial offer is separate from paid Professional-level access. It does not establish unlimited attempts, free retakes, personal lab entitlement or zero cloud-resource charges. Total ownership cost remains unknown.

Before relying on the offer, confirm account and regional eligibility, included attempts, retakes, accessible formats, lab access period and any resource charges. Try a fictional design sample—with a review rubric

A fictional team needs a public application, private records and a nightly report. Draw the request, data and identity paths. State demand, permitted users, compartment boundaries, recovery objective and who owns costs. Compare compute capacity, gateway choice, storage access and least-privilege policy. Use paper or a local document with fictional data; no cloud account or paid resources are needed.

Change one requirement: reporting must continue after one fault-domain failure, while the application cannot read Finance’s records. Revise the design and show which assumptions need testing. Autoscaling is not fault-tolerance evidence; a dynamic group needs a separate policy; backup existence is not a demonstrated restore.

Review rubric: can another reader trace each dependency, identify an allowed and denied access request, explain one failure path, assign a cost/recovery owner and distinguish known facts from tests still needed? Save the first diagram, objections and correction. This is an original learning sample—not performed architecture, an Oracle exam item or a pass prediction.

Related roles and salary context

Service-design reasoning, private connectivity, storage recovery and scoped access can support supervised cloud engineering or administration learning.
