Linux Foundation certifications: choose Linux or Kubernetes work
Compare KCNA cloud-native foundations, KCSA security knowledge, LFCS Linux administration, CKA cluster administration, CKAD application development and CKS practical security. Separate exam eligibility from preparation and paid support. CKS requires a prior CKA pass; KCNA, KCSA, LFCS and CKAD are not that prerequisite. Start with foundations when these tasks are unfamiliar, not a purchase ladder.
Official directory link checked October 2, 2026. This hub covers published Learnerside guides, not every vendor credential. Exam and training observations retain the separate dates shown in each guide.
Which Linux Foundation route fits your requirement?
Explore IT foundations before specializing
LFCA covers introductory Linux, cloud, security, support and project concepts. It does not demonstrate command-line administration or guarantee a junior job. Compare free learning and LFS200 before buying; LFCA is not required for LFCS. CARE applies only to previously earned LFCA under its stated conditions.
Explain security before advanced practical training
KCSA is foundational security knowledge, not CKS terminal performance. Compare free Kubernetes foundations and security-specific feedback; a KCNA course-and-exam bundle is not a KCSA purchase. CARE renews previously held KCSA through qualifying CKS, not a never-held credential.
KCNA is a beginner multiple-choice knowledge exam, not terminal administration performance. Compare free LFS158, the LFS250 course and separate exam purchases. KCNA is not required before CKA or CKAD; higher exams renew only previously held credentials under conditional CARE rules.
LFCS covers broad Linux command-line administration, not Kubernetes cluster specialization. No formal exam prerequisites does not mean no practical preparation. Compare free Linux foundations, LFS207 with your own lab and the exact exam package.
CKA is a command-line performance exam, not an introductory cloud quiz. The issuer lists no exam prerequisites, but practical Linux, networking, container and YAML work matters. Original concept answers do not demonstrate that performance.
CKAD focuses on application design, deployment, configuration, security and service behavior. Compare its current exam environment and developer-course lab requirements rather than assuming they match CKA. Neither certification is required before the other.
Secure Kubernetes behavior and investigate evidence
CKS requires a prior CKA exam pass, which may be expired. Separate that eligibility from practical security readiness, course lab costs and conflicting subscription prices. Concept answers verify neither prerequisite status nor command-line performance.
Try the issuer’s free Introduction to Kubernetes before deciding whether you need structured labs, feedback or an exam. An introduction is not a certification or proof of independent production competence.
Use the free Linux introduction before buying an administration exam. Course completion does not demonstrate service diagnosis, permissions or recovery under time pressure.
Test practical readiness with the guide’s tasks and original assessment where available. Recommended experience, formal eligibility and a requirement owner’s approval are different questions. Neither a score nor course completion guarantees passing or employment.

7 published guides—not the vendor’s entire credential inventory. Each card carries its own observation dates; these do not verify every guide fact, a current training price or an available seat. Experience requirements and recommendations remain separate; neither predicts a pass rate or job outcome.

Renewal filters describe recorded requirements, not a price or guaranteed eligibility. Check the guide and issuer before paying.
Experience requirements: Vendor recommendation. No formal work-experience prerequisite; prepare with independent Linux and Kubernetes command-line practice. Intermediate performance scope is a readiness consideration not an eligibility gate.
Renewal: Depends on renewal route
5 recorded official/free preparation resources; inspect access limits on the guide.
Catalog observation: 2026-10-01; this does not date every claim or verify a current course offer.
Experience requirements: Vendor recommendation. Prepare with Linux CLI and independent container/application deployment practice; intermediate performance scope is readiness advice not a formal work-experience gate.

Experience requirements: Credential prerequisite. Previously passed CKA required before attempting CKS; achieved or renewed or expired CKA accepted. Active CKA is not required.

Experience requirements: Vendor recommendation. No exam prerequisites are listed. General computer familiarity helps with the LFS200 course; that course preparation advice is not a formal exam eligibility gate.

What should you verify before paying for Linux Foundation training?
Compare a self-paced course, exam-only registration and an annual learning subscription by the support you will actually use. Check access terms, practical lab feedback, environment version and the final checkout. A training partner label does not establish the exact package, instructor or a bookable class; this hub does not claim a multi-provider market comparison.
Start with the official preparation linked from the credential guide. Free reading or videos do not establish that labs, practice exams or a voucher are included. Pay for structure, feedback, accessibility, a workable schedule or team support when those solve a real constraint.
Use a guide’s training comparison where available; no comparison link means Learnerside has not published one, not that training is unavailable. A dated price is not a quote and a published class is not a confirmed seat. Confirm time zone, modality, per-learner versus cohort price, taxes, voucher, retake, lab and recording access, cancellation and accessibility before purchase. Unknown extras are not zero.
Roles, skills and salary context
What does the credential show—and what does it not show?
Cluster administration, platform operations and troubleshooting are work directions, not guaranteed job titles. Explain a safe deployment, failed-service diagnosis and verified rollback using a disposable environment. No certification-specific salary or causal pay premium is established by this guide.
Where a guide supplies wage context, read the occupation, geography, reporting year and mapping limits. Occupational wages are not the salary of credential holders, a causal certification pay premium or an offer you should expect. If a reviewed role mapping or wage source is missing, the answer remains unknown.
Keep researching, get employer support or ask a short question
You can use these guides without contact. For an employer or team, start with the work outcome, current skills, schedule and delivery preference. An exact budget is not required to ask for help. A request permits Learnerside to reply; provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient.
