CompTIA expects V8 on or around November 17, 2026, and lists June 11, 2027 as the English V7 exam retirement date (August 13, 2027 for Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai). Build networking, operating-system, identity, and basic administration foundations first if logs, permissions, ports, services, and common network traffic are still abstract.

Close weak domains
Use official samples and independent practice to locate gaps. Return to the objective and a practical exercise for each weak domain before deciding whether more structure is necessary.
Practical work to keep
Harden a small system, apply least privilege, review authentication and system logs, document one alert or incident scenario, and explain which control reduced the risk and what evidence confirmed it.
When paid training is worth considering
Pay when a deadline, instructor feedback, guided labs, accountability, or employer funding makes structure valuable. A high price by itself does not make preparation more complete.
