Who it fits

CCNP Data Center fits learning needs around Cisco network, compute and storage infrastructure. Choose a concentration for the work you need to design, operate, troubleshoot or automate. A task-focused course can be useful without pursuing the complete credential.

Difficulty is the interaction between systems: a reachability symptom can involve routing, fabric policy, compute configuration or storage access. Explain what you would inspect, what remains unknown and how a change could be reversed. Recognizing a term is not the same as diagnosing that interaction.

Choose CCNP Enterprise for enterprise-network work or CCNP Security for security implementation when those match the requirement. An employer may require a particular credential or concentration; confirm the exact requirement rather than assuming all CCNP awards are interchangeable.

Compare all CCNP tracks · Decide whether CCNP is worth it for you.

Requirements & experience

Formal entry: Cisco lists no prerequisite for core or the five concentration exams. A prior CCNA is not required. No mandatory employment duration is established here; open registration does not establish beginner readiness.

Recommended preparation: the DCCOR course expects Ethernet/TCP-IP, SAN and Fibre Channel familiarity, Nexus/MDS recognition, data center and server architecture, and hypervisor knowledge. These are course preparation expectations, not a formal experience gate.

Starting check: explain a packet and storage path, a server’s dependencies and a safe rollback. If these are unfamiliar, compare foundation learning such as DCFNDU before compressed review. For a team, compare each learner’s baseline rather than assuming equal preparation.

Exams & specializations

The credential requires 350-601 DCCOR core plus one concentration. Cisco lists 120 minutes for core and 90 minutes for each concentration. Passing an exam also earns its corresponding Specialist certification; the core alone is not the CCNP award. No universal question count or numerical passing percentage is established here.

These five choices are listed on the current credential overview, checked October 12, 2026. DCNAUTO’s current exam page identifies v2.0; older DCAUTO titles do not establish current coverage.

Ask which concentration your course actually covers. A “CCNP boot camp” title does not establish preparation for both required exams, and a concentration outline is not the core blueprint.

Conflicting issuer pages: the checked core blueprint says v1.2; the DCCOR exam page still says v1.1. That exam page lists English and Japanese, while the credential table lists English. Verify the applicable revision and available language for your intended booking. No transition date or Japanese seat is inferred from the conflict.

Skills measured

The observed v1.2 blueprint has these five families. The tasks below are original learning examples, not a copied syllabus, concentration outline or complete objective list.

Network · 25%

Explain a routing, overlay or ACI policy failure with a packet path.

Objective family 1.0 · pp1–2

Compute · 25%

Connect a UCS profile, firmware change and service-recovery plan.

Objective family 2.0 · p2

Storage Network · 20%

Trace fabric access and distinguish zoning from host-path problems.

Objective family 3.0 · p2

Automation and Artificial Intelligence · 15%

Review a small versioned change and its validation; identify AI-enabling infrastructure.

Objective family 4.0 · p3

Security · 15%

Defend least-privilege administration and explicit application boundaries.

Objective family 5.0 · p3

Read the full official objectives and identify one task you cannot yet explain or safely perform. That gap is a better training requirement than “cover everything quickly.”

An original, safe data center work sample

Draw a fictional two-tenant application with redundant compute and storage paths. State the intended communication, one maintenance window and the accountable change owner. Introduce a failed path and a policy mismatch. Write the evidence you would collect, distinguish observations from assumptions, and propose one bounded change with validation and rollback.

Then select a concentration: defend a design tradeoff, investigate the fault, analyze ACI policy, plan automated validation or evaluate an AI workload’s infrastructure constraint. Explain why your selection fits the task and what it does not cover. Have a reviewer challenge an unsafe assumption.

If you have an explicitly authorized isolated lab, operate the exercise and retain its actual results. Otherwise label it proposed analysis—not performed configuration. Do not touch employer infrastructure, use private logs, expose credentials or purchase a lab merely to complete this example.

Costs

USD 700 is the first-attempt exam-fee floor: USD 400 for core plus USD 300 for one concentration, before applicable tax, observed October 12, 2026 on Cisco’s pricing page. This assumes both passes are needed; check any existing eligible pass in your account before buying again. Those are unequal component fees, not USD 350 per exam. Regional checkout, training, lab access and additional attempts remain separate.

After a failed professional exam, Cisco states a five-calendar-day wait beginning the day after the attempt before retaking the same exam. Recheck the policy and booking terms; do not schedule a recovery plan around an immediate retry.

Compare per-learner and private-cohort pricing, included practice access and support. Unknown expenses are not zero, and no universal three-year ownership total is established. You do not need to give an exact budget to use this research or make a short request.

  • Booking: confirm currency, tax, voucher eligibility and any Learning Credits.
  • Learning: include tuition, books, lab license and access expiry, feedback and time away from work.
  • Upkeep: budget the selected renewal route separately; unknown renewal is not zero.

Plan employer support and funding.

Recommended course background: Cisco recommends LAN/SAN and Fibre Channel foundations, Nexus/MDS familiarity, server architecture and virtualization knowledge.

Published practice and lab work
  • Practise VXLAN and ACI policy.
  • Configure zoning, NPV and UCS profiles.
  • Use Python/Ansible with Nexus devices.

Edition and access: Cisco marks the starred topics as self-study after the instructor-led portion; they are labeled individually below. A five-day class does not establish that every module is taught live. Preserve the existing exam-page v1.1/objectives v1.2 distinction.

Official concentration-course references

Choose the concentration around your work, then read its own syllabus and recommended background. Course names can differ from current exam names; a reference is not an included package or confirmed delivery.

  • DCID: Data-center design instruction.
  • DCIT: Data-center troubleshooting instruction.
  • DCACI: ACI implementation instruction.
  • DCNAUTO: Current course introduction maps 300-635 DCNAUTO; a lower link retains DCAUTO naming.

Start with the issuer’s Cisco U. path and published course formats. For partner instruction, Cisco’s Americas directory lists NetCom Learning, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc., Fast Lane and the legacy name Skillsoft Global Knowledge. Match your seller, region, delivering organization and exact course before buying.

For the same official course and revision, compare instructor access, personally operated labs, feedback, timetable, recordings, access expiry and total cost. A shared syllabus does not make packages interchangeable. Use Cisco’s learning locator.

Free scope review and internal learning

The free official blueprint helps you identify scope; it is not a complete free course or a licensed lab. Cisco also provides public learning resources, but no complete free DCCOR preparation package is verified here.

Cisco U. and instructor-led preparation

Implementing and Operating Cisco Data Center Core Technologies (DCCOR) is the official core course, available through Cisco U. and instructor-led delivery. Its published outline includes network overlays, ACI, compute, storage, security and automation; listed labs include zoning, UCS profiles and Ansible or Python work. Some outline topics are marked for self-study after the instructor-led portion. Do not treat all coverage as live teaching time.

The current course page advertises 64 Continuing Education credits. Those credits are not a newly earned credential or a complete 80-credit professional renewal route. The earlier linked course PDF was unavailable for this check; its previously recorded v1.2 label is historical, not freshly verified.

Compare the actual delivered package

Before choosing paid support, request the exact course revision and concentration, topology, learner permissions, equipment or simulator, software versions, access period and instructor feedback. Ask whether exercises include a faulty configuration, evidence collection and a reversible repair. Confirm voucher, retake, recording and cancellation terms separately.

The named course reference is a starting point. Confirm the selected edition, current tuition, duration, dates, time zone, available seat and lab entitlement. Cisco’s authorized Learning Partner route is not proof that a particular seller or listing is currently authorized. Verify that seller and course; do not infer identical delivery from a generic “gold” badge.

For a team, specify the infrastructure, work outcome, learner baselines, concentration and deadline. Compare guided fault diagnosis when feedback is the gap, and approved internal learning when it can meet the need. Check Cisco authorization · Team learning decisions.

Jobs & salary context

Relevant work can include infrastructure engineering, data center operations, fabric troubleshooting, automation and architecture. Titles vary; demonstrate a design or diagnosis and its evidence rather than presenting a badge as proof of operational authority.

BLS network and computer systems administrators reports a U.S. May 2025 median annual wage of USD 99,130 and typical bachelor’s-level entry education. That broader occupation is not every data center job, CCNP-certified salary, an entry offer or a causal certification premium. Read the occupation scope, checked October 12, 2026.

For design-oriented work, Computer Network Architects, SOC 15-1241, reports a May 2025 U.S. median annual wage of USD 134,050, checked October 12, 2026. This broad occupation typically requires related experience and does not map to every data center architecture title. It is not a CCNP-holder salary or starting offer.

Complement infrastructure skills with change documentation, incident communication, capacity reasoning and recovery planning. These are Learnerside work suggestions, not additional weighted domains. Certification alone does not establish performed work, seniority or a job guarantee.

Renewal

Cisco states three-year validity and qualifying exam or Continuing Education renewal routes. One professional-level route requires 80 CE credits; the course’s 64 credits alone do not complete it. Renew before your own expiration deadline and verify the applicable route in the official policy. Route costs and your account status remain unknown here.
