The associate route connects software, API, platform and network concepts. CCNP Automation instead emphasizes an end-to-end automation system, operations and a chosen concentration. CCNA Automation is not a formal prerequisite for CCNP; choose the level from the work and support you need.
No formal prerequisites does not mean no preparation. The current course recommends basic computer familiarity and hands-on programming, especially Python; PRNE is a named preparatory offering, not a mandatory purchase. If parsing a response, reading an HTTP status or explaining a route is unfamiliar, try those tasks before accelerated exam review.
Difficulty is the combination: code may be valid while a token lacks access, an endpoint uses another data model or a network path blocks a service. A memorized acronym is less useful than a small example you can explain and test safely.
Exam identity and the DevNet name change
The exam and training page identifies one 200-901 CCNAAUTO v1.1 exam, 120 minutes and USD 300 before applicable tax. A fixed question count, numerical passing percentage and precise item-type breakdown are not established here.
Language needs confirmation: the overview lists English only; the exam and training page lists English and Japanese. Confirm the language for your actual booking rather than treating either page as a universal availability promise.
Cisco’s transition explanation describes DevNet Associate becoming CCNA Automation on February 3, 2026 as the same test with a new name. The professional transition was materially revised. Old DevNet references are historical context, not a second current certification or a reason to discard useful fundamentals. The current blueprint still names the older DEVASC course title; confirm the offered revision and scope before paying.
What the current objectives cover
The official v1.1 blueprint gives six weighted families. The examples below are original learning tasks, not copied exam items or a complete syllabus.
Family
Weight
Useful task to discuss
Software Development and Design
15%
Parse a fictional inventory response and review a small change in version control.
Understanding and Using APIs
20%
Explain an HTTP failure using the request, response and API contract.
Cisco Platforms and Development
15%
Choose a documented interface for a specific platform and distinguish mock from live behavior.
Application Deployment and Security
15%
Test a packaged application without exposing credentials or private records.
Infrastructure and Automation
20%
Interpret intended configuration, a diff and the checks needed before execution.
Network Fundamentals
15%
Separate name resolution, routing and transport-port failures from application errors.
Ask what feedback a course supplies on a task you cannot yet complete. A lecture on an API is different from interpreting its response, writing a test or diagnosing connectivity. None of these examples establishes permission to operate an employer’s systems.
Named instruction and optional references
Compare the course’s starting knowledge and advertised teaching with your work requirement. Exam objectives describe assessment scope; they do not supply a course syllabus or personal practice access.
No formal course prerequisites. Recommended basic computer/operating-system/internet familiarity and hands-on programming, specifically Python. PRNE is a named preparatory offering, not a mandatory purchase; course entry, exam attendance and personal readiness are distinct.
Cisco advertises a guided Cisco U. path with pre- and post-assessments, or in-person and virtual instructor-led delivery. Its 48 CE credits are not teaching hours, your preparation estimate or proof of your renewal eligibility.
The course’s own instruction connects software design and Git, Python and HTTP/REST APIs, Cisco interfaces, network troubleshooting, model-driven infrastructure, deployment, tests and security. Eighteen advertised lab themes include API data parsing, HTTP errors, NETCONF, unit tests and containers; they do not establish what you personally operate.
Selected edition, seat, tuition and total price, duration, access period and activation, permitted practice, reviewed feedback and complete current exam alignment remain unknown. Confirm lab hosting, recordings, support, voucher, retake and cancellation terms; the exam fee is separate.
Read CCNAAUTO instruction and access evidence
CCNAAUTO own instruction covers software design/version control, Python and HTTP/REST APIs, Cisco platforms, networking/application troubleshooting, model-driven programmability, infrastructure automation, deployment, tests/security and containers. Eighteen advertised lab themes do not establish personal access, authorized practice or reviewed feedback.48CE are not teaching hours or personal effort. Selected edition, seat, tuition/total, duration/access/activation, practice, feedback and complete current alignment unknown. Four-page official course PDF representation retained; native course/PDF HTTP403 original failures retained, successful original course bytes NOT_RECOVERED. Copyright2026/footer7/24 is not a verified revision date; crawl metadata does not prove origin freshness.
Cisco U guided learning and in-person/virtual instructor-led routes advertised; selected course content, price, seat, access and reviewed feedback unverified. Selected tuition, seat, contact time, permitted practice and feedback remain unverified; an outline is not a current offer.
The Cisco U. course and recommended PRNE links returned a JavaScript shell; their detailed learning content and your entitlement were not verified. The official course PDF representation supports this outline; selected course content and access remain unverified.
The public blueprint, Cisco Learning Network and Networking Academy navigation are optional references, not a complete free course or licensed sandbox entitlement. There is no required free-first sequence.
The course outline was checked October 10 through the official four-page PDF representation; direct course and PDF reads were unavailable. Its 2026 copyright and 7/24 footer do not establish a revision date or complete alignment of your selected edition. October 1 exam, renewal and salary observations remain separate; source delivery metadata does not establish origin freshness.
Check the exact delivery organization through the Cisco authorization checklist; authorization does not prove identical packages or included exam attempts.
One exam fee, not a complete ownership cost
USD 300 is one dated first-attempt exam registration observation. Training, practice environments, tax, regional checkout, extra attempts and renewal activities are separate or unknown. Cisco’s failed associate-exam retest wait is five calendar days beginning the next day; it is not a free retake promise. Check retest and renewal policy.
Validity is three years. One associate renewal route uses 30 CE credits; the advertised course’s 48 does not establish your account eligibility, completion or a free renewal. Other qualifying exam routes and the applicable deadline need confirmation. Missing maintenance prices are unknown, not zero.
A small, safe work sample
This optional paper exercise uses a fictional inventory response with two devices, one missing field and one permission error. Write the intended output, the evidence needed to distinguish malformed data from denied access, and a test that would catch the missing field. Explain which network observations you would need if no HTTP response arrived.
No account, real records, system access or spending is required. You can write the proposed checks on paper; any local mock execution is optional and must use permitted tools. Record what you actually ran separately from proposed analysis. Mock success does not prove a real platform works; never use employer credentials, private inventories or production configuration for this example.
Related roles, skills and salary context
These tasks can support network automation, integration development and infrastructure support; actual jobs vary. A useful portfolio shows readable code, API interpretation, network reasoning and tests—not a badge presented as performed expertise or a guaranteed job.
BLS reports a U.S. May 2025 median annual wage of USD 99,130 for network and computer systems administrators, with typical bachelor’s-level entry education. This is a broader occupation, not a CCNA Automation salary, an entry offer or a causal certification premium. Read the occupation scope, checked October 1, 2026.
Optional: check automation foundation concepts
Twelve original fictional choices cover six families. Answers are not performed programming, network operation or an exam-pass prediction.
