CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure: prepare for practical work, not only ENCOR

Choose this expert route for the network work you need to plan, design, operate or improve. A core course and a correct concept answer are different from sustained hands-on performance. Identify the routing, software-defined network, service or automation gap before buying an all-in-one package.

No formal prerequisite is not a practical readiness result

Cisco lists no formal prerequisite and no mandatory CCNP badge on the current overview. Earning CCIE still requires core and practical success. Check your qualifying core record, its validity window and practical booking eligibility separately. Neither years in a job nor a self-rating proves you can execute and verify the practical tasks.

Start with foundations if routing, switching and logical network dependencies remain unfamiliar. CCNP Enterprise may fit core learning plus a work-specific concentration; it is an alternative, not a required badge. Choose CCIE preparation when you can name a practical gap and obtain feedback on personally performed, controlled work.

The core PDF and current course say v1.2; the exam webpage still says v1.1 and retains an older Wireless qualification mapping. This issuer conflict is unresolved: no transition date or applicable booking revision was verified. Do not infer a current Wireless qualification from that older mapping.

USD 400 + 1,600 = USD 2,000 for one attempt at each, not USD 1,000 per assessment. Tax, regional checkout, training, licensed equipment or labs, travel, extra attempts and renewal remain additional or unknown. Numerical passing percentage and fixed core question count are unverified. Generic Pearson VUE or OnVUE rules for core exams are not practical delivery evidence.

Read five practical families separately from six core families

The practical v1.1 blueprint covers a dual-stack infrastructure lifecycle, including planning, design, operation and optimization. The table paraphrases its five weighted families. These are not the six ENCOR core weights of 15/10/30/10/20/15 used in the optional concept check.

Practical scopeWeightOriginal preparation prompt
Network infrastructure30%Explain convergence, switching and dual-stack reachability under a failure.
Software-defined infrastructure25%Trace SD-Access border handoffs or SD-WAN policy against a requirement.
Transport and services15%Compare GRE, MPLS L3VPN and DMVPN decisions with the traffic path.
Infrastructure security and services15%Validate access, management, QoS and service dependencies.
Automation and programmability15%Interpret API and telemetry results; verify intended and actual state.

The current core outline focuses on wired infrastructure; the older wireless material is outside its current scope. Catalyst Center traditional and AI workflows appear under core Network Assurance 4.5. The Automation and Artificial Intelligence family includes Python, JSON, YANG, APIs, response codes, EEM and agent-based or agentless tools. A domain title is not permission to place every AI scenario in it.

Can you practice with the relevant environment?

The listed v1.1 environment includes virtual Catalyst 8000V with IOS XE 17.9, IOSv 15.8 and IOSvL2 15.2, SD-WAN 20.9, DNA Center 2.3, physical Catalyst 9300 with IOS XE 17.9, ISE 3.1 and a Linux desktop. The document allows newer software while keeping tested features within the listed baseline.

This is a scope reference—not a promise of your appointment’s exact hardware, learner licenses or a purchased provider lab. Ask what you personally configure, which features work, how topology and dependencies are represented, and whether repeat practice and feedback are included. If access is missing, narrow the purchase to the gap instead of assuming a core course supplies a complete expert environment.

Compare ENCOR instruction with the practical gap

The official ENCOR v1.2 course offers Cisco U. or instructor-led delivery and advertises 64 CE credits. Its summarized outline spans wired switching and routing, overlays, assurance, access/security and automation. The course explicitly permits skipping older v1.1 wireless content outside the current exam scope. Core preparation is not complete practical preparation.

Ask a seller to map its exact revision and learner-operated exercises to your chosen core and practical tasks. Exact tuition, contact hours, class dates, time zones, seats, equipment licensing, repeat-access period, recordings, voucher, retake, support and cancellation terms remain unknown. A course listing is not a bookable seat.

Verify the named Cisco Learning Partner and exact course. Authorization does not prove identical packages, practical coverage or a Learnerside commercial relationship. Free public outlines and environment references are useful before contact, but are not a complete free course or equipment entitlement.

A restricted practice offer, not verified availability

The issuer practice page lists Enterprise Infrastructure four-hour sessions at USD 50 plus tax. No slot was verified. Ordering requires a prior core or expert written-exam attempt and record processing described as at least two weeks; the page also mentions CCNP learners. Confirm actual access and eligibility before buying.

There is no formal grading, solution or verification step, no pod reset or saved configuration between sessions, and no cancellation, rescheduling or refund; a no-show forfeits payment. Purchased topology, configuration and scenario documents are Cisco Confidential and must not be shared or published. A generic graded-lab advertisement does not establish an Enterprise Infrastructure graded product.

Include renewal, retakes and travel uncertainty

Cisco’s policy gives three-year validity and qualifying exam or CE routes. One Expert route uses 120 CE credits; ENCOR’s 64 alone is insufficient. Check eligible activities and your account deadline. Unknown renewal expense is not zero.

A failed written retest has a five-calendar-day wait from the next day; a failed practical has a 30-calendar-day wait before scheduling the same exam, also starting the next day. Neither is a free retake. Recheck the remaining qualifying window and booking terms before arranging travel.

Create an original convergence-to-recovery work sample

Invent two sites, a critical application, a permitted traffic matrix and a failure at a software-defined border. Draw the actual and expected path, separate observations from hypotheses, choose bounded validation and rollback criteria, and identify the accountable approver. Add a mock API response whose outcome is unknown, not confirmed failed. Explain how you would reconcile state before a retry.

Use synthetic records and personally controlled practice only: no employer configurations, private telemetry, production changes or copied Cisco Confidential scenarios. Label proposed analysis separately from personally executed evidence. A plan, concept choice or years-of-experience label is not practical performance or an exam pass.

Roles, skills and salary context

Routing design, software-defined policy, dependency diagnosis and controlled automation can support enterprise network engineering, infrastructure operations and consulting. These are editorial task associations, not guaranteed titles or seniority. Match an employer’s actual responsibility and technology scope to an inspectable work sample.

BLS reports a U.S. May 2025 median annual wage of USD 99,130 for network and computer systems administrators. This broader occupation is not a CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure salary, an entry offer or a causal certification premium. Its typical bachelor’s-level entry education is not a Cisco prerequisite. Read the occupation scope, checked October 1, 2026.

Optional: check ENCOR core concepts

Twelve original fictional choices cover six current core families, not the five practical families. They use no actual exam questions and do not simulate practical performance.
