Choose Purview learning for a sensitive-data decision
Match learning to classification, sharing, retention or investigation responsibilities. Check the conflicting exam-update dates and the practice access you need before purchasing.
Best fit
People responsible for sensitive-data protection and governance in Microsoft 365.
Consider instead
Choose learning for an actual duty gap; incident triage, identity administration and information governance need different practice.
Before paying
Current detailed exam scope, personal eligibility, licensed practice access, feedback and total invoice need confirmation.

Read the scope conflict, compare named learning options and try the fictional policy case.
Check the outline before choosing preparation
Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate concerns Microsoft Purview information protection, data loss prevention, retention, risk and alert responsibilities. Microsoft recommends familiarity with Microsoft 365, PowerShell, Entra and Defender services. That background is separate from formal eligibility; no numeric employment duration or named prior certification requirement was found in the public audience profile. Your personal registration eligibility remains unverified.
The issuer dates conflict. The credential listing announces an English update on October 14, 2026. Its linked study guide presents skills as of October 28, 2026 and a change log using that later date. These sources do not establish a complete current detailed outline or a single effective date. Ask which dated outline and language your intended appointment uses.
The listing names three broad families: information protection; data loss prevention and retention; risks, alerts and activities. The future-dated guide assigns 30–35 percent to each and describes a minor sensitivity-label objective change. Those ranges are future scope here, not current readiness scores, exact question counts or hiring weights.
The listing gives 100 minutes for the assessment and seven exam languages. It is proctored and may include interactive components; a fixed count or question-type distribution was not verified. A linked practice assessment and sandbox are preparation resources, not personal performance evidence. Microsoft uses a scaled passing score of 700 on a 1–1,000 scale, not 70 percent correct or a practice target.

Independent Microsoft Learn paths
Choose when: You can identify a classification, retention or investigation gap and study its concepts independently.
Useful evidence: The protection path has nine modules; retention/recovery two; insider risk five; audit/eDiscovery two. The separate DLP module has nine units and a 54-minute estimate.
Confirm first: Path knowledge prerequisites differ. Public reading does not provide a licensed tenant, role permissions, endpoint coverage, safe practice data or individual review.
SC-401T00-A: Protect sensitive information with Microsoft Purview in the AI era
Choose when: You need a structured course and want to verify learner-operated practice and feedback.
Useful evidence: Microsoft lists an intermediate four-day course with a readable overview of protection, DLP, retention, risk, alerts and AI-data controls. Its four course languages differ from the seven exam languages.
Confirm first: The detailed course module list did not render in the reviewed public source. The independent path outlines below are not proof of the complete purchased syllabus. Tuition, contact hours, labs, revision, feedback, dates and a seat are unverified.
Read the individual outlines and entry requirements
Information protection — 9 modules. Classification, reporting, sensitive information types, labels, on-premises protection and encryption. Background: Purview familiarity and basic data-protection and security concepts.
Retention and recovery — 2 modules. Retention concepts, labels, policies, precedence and recovery across workloads. Background: Foundational security/compliance and Microsoft 365 governance knowledge.
Audit and content search — 2 modules. Audit investigations and eDiscovery case/search concepts. Background: Foundational security/compliance plus audit and content-discovery knowledge.
Implement Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention — 9 units; 54-minute estimate. Implementation planning, default/custom policies, notifications and policy tips. Background: The module lists no prerequisites; this does not establish whole-credential readiness.
The protection and insider-risk paths expect Purview familiarity and basic protection/security concepts. Retention expects security/compliance and Microsoft 365 governance knowledge; audit/search expects security/compliance and audit/content-discovery knowledge. “None” on the separate DLP module is a module entry statement, not readiness for the whole credential.
Separate exam, course and product costs
The exam price depends on country or region; a numeric regional amount was not verified. Course tuition is unknown. Separate exam/retakes, tuition, tenant and product licenses, role permissions, devices, access expiry, feedback and tax. Unknown is not zero. Free public learning content does not make product practice free.
The exact renewal page applies to holders within six months of expiry. Its English renewal scope was updated May 4, 2026, separately from the initial-exam update. Microsoft’s annual renewal policy offers a free online assessment; passing before expiry extends the credential one year from its existing expiry. The displayed 45 minutes describes a preparation collection, not initial or renewal exam duration. No profile, renewal assessment or booking was operated.
Before payment, confirm the exact dated outline and course revision, language, learner-operated exercises, permitted synthetic-data environment, product entitlements, review time, accessibility, voucher/retake terms, cancellation and final invoice. A course title or scheduling link does not establish a seat.
Connect training to actual responsibilities
Classification and protection, risk/alert review, incident response, problem solving and stakeholder communication can support some information-security responsibilities. These are conditional task associations, not demonstrated competence or a universal credential requirement. Check whether the job asks for governance policy, identity administration or operational incident investigation before choosing preparation.
BLS Information Security Analysts, SOC 15-1212 reports USD129,180 median annual pay for the United States, May 2025. Use this occupational context only when actual duties match network/system protection and security measures. Governance administration or a job title alone does not establish that mapping; this is not credential-holder earnings, entry pay or a certification premium.
Try an original fictional policy case
Fictional training case: a project folder contains fabricated customer identifiers, a public brochure and a draft contract. A partner needs the approved contract, while the identifiers must remain restricted. The business owner has supplied a fictional retention requirement; you are not deciding legal obligations. Sketch classification and labeling, a narrow sharing/DLP test, and retention handling. Record who approves policy, who may investigate alerts, what test evidence shows both protection and legitimate access, and how to reverse a mistaken rollout.
Changed condition: An approved partner cannot open the contract, and a false-positive alert exposes a restricted document preview to a reviewer. Revise the test, permission boundary and exception approval without disabling every protection or treating an alert as proof of misconduct.
Review rubric: Separate labels, DLP actions and retention; name policy owners and authorized reviewers; test permitted and blocked flows with synthetic data; distinguish evidence from accusation; document precedence, exception approval and recovery. A justified uncertainty is stronger than an unsupported configuration claim.
This is an original fictional paper exercise, not an exam question, legal advice, a readiness score or performed customer work. It needs no real account, employee monitoring or private data. Any later implementation requires an authorized learning environment.
Prepare a private employer training brief
Record the sensitive-data task, policy owner, existing knowledge, dated outline, named learning option, permitted practice environment, feedback requirement and unresolved costs. Research and a private brief require no contact details.
A short request permits Learnerside to reply. Provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient. It does not book a course; the detailed planner is optional.
