MS-102: check the retirement deadline before buying preparation
Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert.
Best fit
Experienced Microsoft 365 administrators with a specific tenant, identity, security or compliance gap.
Consider instead
Task-focused learning without pursuing this retiring award; narrower identity or endpoint preparation when that is your actual requirement.
Before paying
Microsoft announces November 30, 2026 retirement. Credential prerequisites, objective weights and the scheduling panel disagree across issuer pages. Regional checkout and access remain unknown.
No-contact next step
Read the lifecycle limits, compare preparation routes and draft a tenant-change plan without an account.
Credential requirements, retirement and source conflicts
The credential page, checked October 2, says the credential and exam retire November 30, 2026: you cannot earn or renew this certification after retirement. The exam warning specifies 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, while the same scheduling panel says “Retirement date: none.” Do not treat the empty panel as permission to book beyond the warning. Verify your appointment and award deadline directly with Microsoft.
The credential page requires MS-102 plus at least one named Associate: Endpoint Administrator, Teams Administrator, Identity and Access Administrator, or Information Security Administrator. The exam page lists only the first three. This is an unresolved issuer-list conflict; the credential award requirement is not a personally verified exam-booking or course-attendance gate. Confirm your own qualifying credential in your profile before committing.
Microsoft recommends cross-workload administration and Entra experience, with networking, Active Directory Domain Services, DNS and PowerShell familiarity. Preparation guidance is not a fixed work-experience admission rule. We have not verified a successor or equivalence route.
Both the exam and study guide label their English update April 28, 2026, but publish different weights. Do not use either range to score readiness or assume it resolves the other page.
Issuer observations checked October 2, 2026—not a reconciled exam blueprint
These are source-specific observations, not reproduced exam questions. Read the issuer objectives for detailed scope and ask which outline applies to your language and date.

Free issuer reading first
Choose when: Identify a named learning gap before buying support.
Useful evidence: Public credential, exam and study-guide reading about tenant administration, identity, security and compliance.
Confirm first: Personal practice, tenant access, licenses and a complete preparation path are not verified.
Confirm first: The credential collection shows no current courses while this separate outline exists. Seller authorization, tuition, dates, seats, contact hours, labs, licenses and vouchers remain unknown.
Regional exam price, exact assessment duration, appointment time and fixed question count are unverified here. No generic Microsoft price is substituted. Confirm tax, retakes, accommodations, ID and language terms; account-specific eligibility, prerequisite exams, tuition and licensed practice can add costs. Missing cost is not zero.
The credential page still displays generic annual renewal instructions beside its retirement warning. Annual free renewal is an eligible-holder assessment, not a free initial exam, tuition or Microsoft 365 license. Retirement ends the ability to renew this credential; generic annual instructions do not promise renewal after November 30. Confirm your individual renewal window before the cutoff.
Free public reading does not establish free tenant provisioning, included courseware or performed administration. A course outline is not a currently offered class or proof that a seller is authorized.
Original tenant-change exercise and review rubric
A fictional retailer wants external collaboration for a new supplier, less excessive administrator access and a defensible retention policy. The tenant owner has not approved license changes; the compliance owner has not resolved how long records must be retained.
Write a one-page change record: distinguish business requirements from assumed product features; map tenant, identity, security and compliance dependencies; name the authorized owner of each decision. Propose evidence checks, least-privilege access, a staged test, an acceptance condition and rollback. Do not activate a tenant or use real learner or customer records for this exercise.
Changed condition: a collaboration setting blocks a required workflow and legal rejects the proposed retention period. Revise the plan, identify what you can test safely and what needs an accountable decision. A green security score alone does not prove the business or legal requirement is met.
Review rubric: can another reader find the unresolved requirement, its owner, the evidence needed, a reversible test and the approval/rollback boundary? Obtain one objection and revise. Difficulty is contextual: recognizing product names is different from diagnosing dependencies and defending a change. This original fictional exercise is not performed work, an actual exam item or a pass prediction.
Related work, skills and salary questions
Microsoft 365 administration, identity operations, security coordination and compliance support share some tasks but are not one job or pay scale. Compare actual tenant responsibilities, scripting, change control and employer requirements. No current credential-specific salary, causal premium or entry offer is established here; do not buy this retiring credential on a salary promise.
