ISC2 certifications: choose security foundations, operations or governance
Compare CC, SSCP and CGRC guides by the work you need to do, with a separate official CISSP path for broader security responsibilities. Separate practical preparation from the experience needed for the full credential, then verify training support and ongoing costs.
Official directory link checked October 1, 2026. This hub covers published Learnerside guides, not every vendor credential. Exam and training observations retain the separate dates shown in each guide.
CC has no work-experience requirement. Use it to investigate foundational security knowledge, not as proof you can independently administer or defend a production system. It is not a mandatory prerequisite for the other routes.
SSCP addresses hands-on security administration and operations. Full certification requires one year of relevant experience; a qualifying degree can satisfy that year. Passing first through the Associate route does not mean you already hold SSCP.
CISSP spans broad security responsibilities. Full certification normally requires five years across at least two domains, with at most a one-year waiver. It is not an automatic next purchase after SSCP, and course attendance does not create qualifying experience. This branch links to the issuer’s requirements, not a fourth searchable guide card below.
CGRC is a separate branch for risk, control assessment and system-authorization work, not a step in a SOC badge ladder. Full certification requires two years in at least one domain; passing the exam alone does not grant authority to accept organizational risk.
Test practical readiness with the guide’s tasks and original assessment where available. Recommended experience, formal eligibility and a requirement owner’s approval are different questions. Neither a score nor course completion guarantees passing or employment.

3 published guides—not the vendor’s entire credential inventory. Each card carries its own observation dates; these do not verify every guide fact, a current training price or an available seat. Experience requirements and recommendations remain separate; neither predicts a pass rate or job outcome.

What should you verify before paying for ISC2 training?
For ISC2 training, identify the credential and applicable dated exam outline, the actual delivery organization and its current authorization, instructor support and learner-operated exercises. Official training and free outlines or flash cards are different offers; a former free course-and-exam promotion is not a current entitlement. Verify tuition, course access, voucher conditions and each learner’s booking region. An authorized instructor claim does not establish an outside provider’s partner status or an available seat.
Start with the official preparation linked from the credential guide. Free reading or videos do not establish that labs, practice exams or a voucher are included. Pay for structure, feedback, accessibility, a workable schedule or team support when those solve a real constraint.
Use a guide’s training comparison where available; no comparison link means Learnerside has not published one, not that training is unavailable. A dated price is not a quote and a published class is not a confirmed seat. Confirm time zone, modality, per-learner versus cohort price, taxes, voucher, retake, lab and recording access, cancellation and accessibility before purchase. Unknown extras are not zero.
Exam fees vary by booking region. Continuing education and annual maintenance are separate from exam and training charges; holding several ISC2 credentials does not necessarily mean paying a separate annual fee for each. Check the official regional exam prices and member maintenance policy. The cards do not calculate a universal three-year ownership bill.
Roles, skills and salary context
What does the credential show—and what does it not show?
Security foundations, system administration, cross-domain security decisions and GRC authorization support are different work directions. The Associate route permits building qualifying experience after an exam pass; it is not the full certification. Match the requirement to the actual role and employer, rather than buying every credential in a sequence.
Where a guide supplies wage context, read the occupation, geography, reporting year and mapping limits. Occupational wages are not the salary of credential holders, a causal certification pay premium or an offer you should expect. If a reviewed role mapping or wage source is missing, the answer remains unknown.
Keep researching, get employer support or ask a short question
You can use these guides without contact. For an employer or team, start with the work outcome, current skills, schedule and delivery preference. An exact budget is not required to ask for help. A request permits Learnerside to reply; provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient.
