The dated issuer observation identifies 004 testing Terraform 1.12: English, one-hour online-proctored multiple choice, two-year credential validity. No numeric pass threshold or question count is established here.

The public official learning path gives an ordered route through workflow, configuration, modules, state and collaboration. Start with documentation and disposable local demonstrations. A Docker-based introduction can avoid provisioning public-cloud infrastructure, but still requires local tooling and resources; reading a tutorial is not performing it.
For paid support, request 004/1.12 alignment, learner-operated exercises, plan review, feedback on state and secrets, instructor access, format, meeting time zone and cancellation terms. An exact paid official course, tuition, duration, voucher, recordings, hosted lab and current seat are not verified here. No outside provider’s authorization is established; a general partner badge does not identify the actual package.
Exam cost and separate practice costs
On October 1, the exam page lists USD 70.50 plus local taxes and fees; no free retake. Confirm currency, region, attempts and checkout before purchase. This is an exam observation, not total tuition or a team quote.
HCP Terraform Free supports remote execution and up to 500 managed resources. That is not a guarantee every feature, account or cloud deployment costs nothing. Public-cloud charges and paid HCP organization billing remain separate. Do not connect employer accounts or real credentials for these exercises.
Renewal depends on your existing badge
The credential body captured October 10 adds Terraform Infrastructure Engineer Professional as a renewal route. For unexpired 004, passing Professional or either AWS/Azure Authoring and Operations Advanced extends the existing Associate credentials. Retaking 004 can extend them starting six months before expiry. Older unexpired 002/003 holders may extend the badge by passing Professional or Advanced, or pass 004 starting six months before expiry for separate new credentials; the Associate option leaves their original badge unchanged. Expired holders pass the current Associate exam at any time for new credentials; their original expiry is unchanged. Future renewal checkout cost remains unknown. Keep exam access separate from an employer account
The certification portal uses GitHub. Keep the same account and a personal contact email; another GitHub identity creates a separate portal without your existing appointments or credentials. Do not create a new account to fix an existing record. No appointment or seat availability has been verified.
An original practice brief for an employer
On paper, draft a fictional library-service configuration change: expected plan, dependency, state boundary, reviewer, rollback and cleanup. Mark untested assumptions. This optional handoff needs no account, real credentials, system access or purchase. If you independently choose a disposable local exercise, distinguish what you actually ran from the paper draft; keep synthetic inputs and no production apply.
For approval, explain the work requirement, any practice attempted, unresolved gap and feedback a course should supply. Compare support, not just exam-voucher prices.
Roles, skills and salary context
Cloud engineering, platform operations and DevOps work can involve configuration review, dependency reasoning, state protection and team change control. Those are editorial work associations—not verified job eligibility or a hiring promise.
BLS network and computer systems administrators, checked October 1, reports a U.S. May 2025 median annual wage of USD 99,130 and typical bachelor’s-level education. This broad occupation is not a Terraform-holder salary, entry-level offer or causal certification premium.
