Is this the right ML credential now?
The Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer exam assesses how you design, build, deploy and monitor AI solutions on Google Cloud. It fits someone making real choices about data, models, evaluation, pipelines and production operations. It is not proof of machine-learning skill on every platform or a guarantee of an ML job.
Check courseware currency before paying. Google says this exam has been updated for the transition from Vertex AI to Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and changes to its data and analytics stack. Its linked exam guide as of June 1, 2026 is the study target checked September 29, 2026. An older book or class may still teach valuable fundamentals, but a familiar course title or a provider badge does not establish coverage of the current guide. Even Google's credential page links an older study guide that describes Vertex AI; use the current exam PDF to audit any purchase.
Google lists no formal exam prerequisite. Its exam facts recommend three or more years of industry experience, including at least one year designing and managing Google Cloud solutions. A separate preparation step recommends three or more years hands-on with Google Cloud products. Those are two different recommendations on Google's page, not admission rules or a promise that either period ensures readiness. If your Google Cloud work is limited, compare course background and the official guide; an introductory label does not remove the course prerequisites.
Six areas in the current guide
Google's June 2026 exam guide gives these approximate shares. They add to 101% because the published figures are rounded; do not turn them into exact question counts or a predicted score. Learnerside paraphrases the guide rather than reproducing its task list.
| Guide section | Approximate share | A practical decision to test |
|---|
| Architecting low-code AI solutions | 13% | Choose when BigQuery ML, managed model building or a foundation model fits a real task. |
| Collaborating across teams to manage data and models | 16% | Prepare data safely and track experiments, access and model lineage. |
| Scaling prototypes into ML models | 21% | Defend model, training method, hardware and tuning choices under constraints. |
| Serving and scaling models | 20% | Compare batch versus online serving, versioning, rollout and latency. |
| Automating and orchestrating ML pipelines | 18% | Make data validation, retraining and deployment repeatable and recoverable. |
| Monitoring AI solutions | 13% | Detect drift, unsafe behavior, quality changes and operational failures. |
The current guide names Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform services as well as BigQuery ML, Cloud Run and other Google Cloud tools. It also covers traditional ML and generative AI. Google's credential page says the exam does not directly assess coding skill, but candidates should be able to interpret Python and SQL snippets. A course that only teaches prompt writing or only one managed product is not a full substitute for the guide.
Instruction and an optional work sample
The challenge is choosing and operating an AI solution under cost, security, data-quality and reliability constraints, not memorizing product names. An optional fictional work sample: an invented retailer wants to predict demand but has incomplete history and seasonal changes. On paper, define the decision and baseline, identify missing data and privacy constraints, compare two model approaches, plan evaluation and monitoring, and explain rollback. Use invented systems and data; no account, deployment or spending is required. This is an original Learnerside exercise, not an official exam item or a readiness prediction. If you later select cloud practice, cloud services and labs may generate charges.
Google links the current exam guide, sample questions and a Machine Learning Engineer learning path. Access or charges for specific courses, labs, accounts and usage were not verified for this page. Paid instruction may help when you need feedback on architecture, production troubleshooting or team practice. It is not inherently required to sit the exam, and no current provider class or seat has been verified here.
Exam fee is separate from training
As checked September 29, 2026, Google lists a two-hour exam, 50-60 multiple-choice or multiple-select questions, English or Japanese, and a US $200 registration fee plus applicable tax. Online-proctored and test-center delivery are listed. The fee is not tuition, a voucher guarantee, lab spending, retakes or a universal regional checkout total. Confirm the current version, language, appointment, exam terms and actual fee before purchase.
Before buying a class, ask the seller for the June 2026 guide mapping, the legal seller and delivery organization, current product names, date and time zone, instructor feedback, learner-operated labs, cloud credits and overage limits, access period, recordings, accessibility support, voucher and retake terms, and cancellation policy. Compare the total cost per learner against the specific skill gap. A claimed partner status does not verify those terms; check the exact offer through the issuer and seller.
Roles, salary and next action
The work overlaps ML engineering, MLOps, AI application engineering and cloud-data roles, but employers define those jobs differently. Broad occupation wages cannot isolate certificate holders or prove a pay increase from this exam. This page makes no certification-specific salary claim. Compare target job descriptions and your own production-ready work samples.
You can ask about instruction immediately. Research and the optional exercise are not prerequisites for help. For an optional comparison, use the current June 2026 guide alongside one invented design decision. If instruction would close a specific gap, describe your timing and format or draft an employer brief. A Learnerside request does not authorize provider sharing; that requires separate consent naming the recipient.
Sources and limits
Learnerside is independent of Google Cloud. No provider seat, class tuition, exam result, job or salary is verified here. Recheck issuer and seller information before paying.
