Google Professional Cloud Developer credential and exam logistics

Credential lifecycle reference · Observed 2026-10-09

No formal prerequisite. Labeled recommendation: three or more industry years including one or more Google Cloud years; later preparation paragraph recommends three or more hands-on Google Cloud years. Wording conflict retained, neither is eligibility. Two hours, English/Japanese, fifty to sixty questions, USD 200 plus applicable tax. Renewal FAQ separate.

This public credential notice is a version and timing reference, not purchased instruction or a seat. Exam registration, courses and permitted practice have separate costs.

Google Professional Cloud Developer four-area English exam guide

Exam objective reference · Observed 2026-10-09

Current four-page English guide retains approximate 32/23/24/21; no fresh version date inferred. AI-assisted development and generative API scope do not become a course syllabus or proof of complete alignment.

This public exam outline is a scope reference, not purchased instruction or practice access. Exam registration, courses and permitted practice have separate costs.

Research and the private brief are optional. A request permits Learnerside to reply; provider sharing requires separate consent naming the recipient.

Certification details change. Always confirm final pricing, availability, and credential terms on the official provider page linked in the sources below before you pay for anything.

Is this the right certification for your work?

Choose Cloud Developer when you need to design, test, deploy and integrate cloud-native applications on Google Cloud. Choose Cloud DevOps Engineer instead when your central gap is delivery pipelines, reliability and production operations. For project administration and workload operation, compare Associate Cloud Engineer. None is a mandatory prerequisite for the others.

The credential page, checked September 30, 2026, lists no formal prerequisite and recommends three or more years of industry experience, including one or more years designing and managing Google Cloud solutions. A later paragraph on the same page instead says three years of hands-on Google Cloud experience. That wording conflicts; neither recommendation is an eligibility requirement. Google's certification FAQ requires candidates to be at least 18. Open registration is not proof of readiness.

An optional comparison is to explain a small application's identity, data flow, failure behavior and deployment. Research and exercises are not prerequisites for help. If you cannot yet program or debug an application, build that foundation first. A certificate is not a substitute for working software or an employer's requirements.

Current exam details and outline

The credential page lists a two-hour exam, 50-60 multiple-choice or multiple-select questions, English or Japanese, and USD 200 plus applicable tax, delivered remotely or at a test center. Confirm appointment, identification, accommodation and local checkout requirements before paying. No numbered exam code or future retirement date is verified here.

The English guide linked from the credential page, checked September 30, has four areas. Percentages are approximate shares, not question counts. This is a summary, not a reproduction of the full objectives.

Area, paraphrasedApproximate shareA useful practical exercise
Scalable, secure and reliable application design32%Explain API boundaries, identity, event handling and failure recovery.
Application building and testing23%Test code and dependencies, package artifacts and protect the build.
Deployment configuration24%Configure Cloud Run or GKE identity, runtime settings and promotion.
Service integration and application diagnosis21%Connect data or messaging services and investigate errors or latency.

The current guide includes generative AI API integration and application safeguards. It remains an application-development credential, not a claim of AI engineering mastery. Use the linked guide to check the exact syllabus before buying older courseware.

Training options, course coverage and costs

Named instruction and its starting knowledge appear above. The public exam guide, issuer sample questions and documentation can support an optional task comparison; they are separate from course access. Google's Professional Cloud Developer learning path, checked September 30, lists 10 activities covering application architecture, generative AI APIs, service integration and performance through courses, labs and skill badges. Its public shell asks you to sign in or join. Full path and lab access costs are not verified; a visible catalog is not a free entitlement.

A practical class should let you build and test an application, deploy it under a restricted identity, connect a managed service and diagnose a failure. Ask for feedback on your own work rather than an instructor-only demonstration. For employer funding, describe those task gaps and the work deliverable you will bring back.

No current provider tuition, class date, seat or authorization is verified for this guide. Ask the exact delivery organization for its current issuer-directory listing, syllabus mapping, learner-operated labs, cloud charges, modality, time zone, accessibility, recordings, voucher and retake terms, and cancellation rules. A partner designation does not establish identical instructors, packages or outcomes. Do not treat the exam's USD 200 fee as a course price or total budget.

Keeping the credential active

Professional credentials are valid for two years. Google's renewal policy, checked September 30, places Cloud Developer among professional credentials with a standard-exam renewal window opening 60 days before expiry. It does not currently list a shorter exam or designated continuing-education renewal for this credential. Google describes a renewal discount code, but the payable amount must be confirmed in the holder's account. We do not infer a USD 100 renewal bill or an all-in ownership total. Tuition, lab usage, tax and retakes remain separate.

Three original learning questions

These are Learnerside exercises, not actual Google exam questions or a pass prediction. The optional concept check below is also a learning aid, not eligibility or exam readiness evidence.

1. An API retries a failed write. How do you prevent duplicate work? Explain idempotency, the data boundary and what the caller can safely retry. Ask for a lab that includes failure, not only a successful request.

2. Should your service use Cloud Run or GKE? Describe its runtime, operational controls and constraints before picking a product. An existing Kubernetes requirement may change the decision.

3. An AI API response is unsafe or contains sensitive information. What changes? Define output validation, permissions, data handling and fallback behavior. Adding an API call does not remove application responsibility.

Related roles, skills and salary context

Application development, cloud software engineering and service integration are relevant work contexts, not guaranteed job titles or hiring outcomes. Skills include programming, testing, identity, deployment, APIs and fault diagnosis. Employers may expect broader experience than this exam covers.

BLS software developer data, checked September 30, reports a U.S. May 2025 median annual wage of USD 135,980 for software developers (SOC 15-1252). This broad occupation is not a Cloud Developer-holder salary, an entry-level offer or a certification pay premium. Compare local duties and experience rather than buying an exam for a promised raise.

Choose your next step

You can ask about instruction immediately. An optional original fictional work sample: an invented parcel service retries shipment updates after timeouts. On paper, define API identity, an idempotent write, permitted data, a duplicate-request test, a monitoring signal and rollback. No account, deployment or spending is required. This is a Learnerside exercise, not an official exam item or proof of readiness. Selected live cloud practice may incur charges. Describe your timing and preferred format or prepare an employer brief. Provider sharing needs separate consent naming the recipient.

Sources beside the claims were checked September 30, 2026. No current provider offering, employment result or exam success was verified. Learnerside is independent of Google Cloud.
